False dichotomy: with a synth that's as easy to program as Diva, there's no reason why we can't have both quality and quantity.snigelx wrote:Quality over quantity.

How about something around 8 patches? If the contest ends in six weeks, you can work on 2 patches per week, then spend the last two weeks revising/polishing 4 patches per week. If there are 12 contestants, that yields a decent number of patches at 96.

I think a little padding on the total size like this would be nice for people. It would make it easier to justify including a couple patches that might be a little less filtered for the contest but still fun or interesting to share.Doc Jon wrote:I'd be interested too
6-8 patches sounds good

One thing I failed to take into account is the fact that most users already have a good head-start on a bank anyway. In most cases it would just mean cleaning up and adding some extra MIDI control to those existing creations. At any rate, 6-8 patch mini-sets would be great.hakey wrote:False dichotomy: with a synth that's as easy to program as Diva, there's no reason why we can't have both quality and quantity.snigelx wrote:Quality over quantity.

I say that this doesn't matter that much... not that I have been patching DIVA since for the factory bank... I haven't patched it at all.snigelx wrote: ...that most users already have a good head-start on a bank anyway.
But if you CAN patch... it is possible to create better patches that anybody that has a good "head-start"
Call it talent, luck, or just find few neat tricks and revolve around those... but if you miss skill that comes from experience... it will be a bit harder to get that solid contour that makes a patch sound legit!
But anyway... even it you have fun and the patches sound more experimental, with a good idea and positive mental attitude .. you are greatly increasing your chances for better results in every way!
8 patches sounds like a perfect number.

Note: we're deciding the *maximum* number of patches per mini-bank, not a fixed number that everyone has to abide by.
EDIT: Or should we have a fixed bank size?
If it is to be fixed, I vote for 8.

I agree on the upper limit of 8 patches. I like the suggestion of having 6-8 total.hakey wrote:Note: we're deciding the *maximum* number of patches per mini-bank, not a fixed number that everyone has to abide by.

How are we on the count of participants?

How's about this?
Diva mini-Patchbank Contest
The return of the u-he patch contests! The synth is Diva and, rather than submitting single patches, the task this time around is to put together a mini-patchbank.
As ever the prize for this contest is pretty good - a free choice of one nfr* software product from the u-he range!
How to enter
Rulez and other important stuff:
- Simply create a Diva mini-patchbank, comprising no more than eight patches of any style, genre, or flavour.
- Send your patchbank (.h2p format patches in a folder) to bmrzycki, either by PM through this forum (upload the folder to an on-line file share site, such as box.net, and then PM bmrzycki a link), or by email to: brzycki [at] gmail [dot] com.**
*not for resale
- Patchbanks must be no larger than eight patches.
- Patchbank folders should have a short unique name (so not, "Diva Patchbank Contest"!).
- All patchbanks, in particular the patches therein, must be anonymized. Putting a "?" in the "author" field when saving a patch does the trick.
- The winning patchbank will be decided by a vote.
- In order to be eligible for the prize patchbank submitters must vote - no vote no prize!
- Try to ensure that your patches do not exhibit significant - ideally no - audio clipping.
- Please DO NOT! send any patches to me (hakey). KVR member bmrzycki collects the patches for the contest.
- Please DO! carefully read through the instructions under "How to enter" and "Rulez and other important stuff".
- The deadline for submissions is 14:00 UTC/GMT April 1st
**PMing bmrzycki is probably the more reliable method - emails have been known to get lost in transit.
The themes for these contests are decided upon by something approaching a democratic/consensual process, so if anyone has ideas for future contests, themes, or just general suggestions, please speak your brains in the next patch contest thread.

looks cool...

I know that contestants would be required to create a small patch bank instead of one or 2 patches.. but the deadline seems too far away!
