Yes, not absolutely free to be correct. Anyway, 5 euro for a tubeohm synth (the fee unlocks the effect section for saving a tweaked preset) is a deal! It should be available this week.

TubeOhm make nice synths with really oldskool GUIs. If SE is so limiting on that side, maybe consider SM, as the oscillators and filters sound pretty good.

SE seems to be a dirty word that most developers seem to avoid like the plague when advertising their work.
But if an instrument uses it and that instrument sounds good then there's no real reason to hide the fact or not give credit where its due.

I suppose it doesn't help that so much sub standard stuff has been released using stock modules under the SE badge.

as far as GUI is concerned you can make anything you want if you can be
arsed to make your own graphics, which isn't very hard at all.(knobman,
skinman, paintdotnet)

and as far as using 'stock modules', you can go a very long way with
those with a bit of imagination/work and a few judicious tweaks. besides,
the basic SE stuff doesn't sound bad at all. SE has a massive 3rd
party resource, free and commercial, and quite a bit more history
than synthmaker(which i've admittedly never used and can't judge),
and is a very nice environment to work in. these days, if any synths
sound 'same-y', it's synthmaker synths, afaics, with the same knobs,
lists, eg displays etc. looks like e-zee SE.

where's the download link for the freebie? the demo sounds very nice.
