I suspect it was quite a lot of hyperbole and pure malice in those rumors. I've never had a problem with Gladiator 1 and 2. It's a very simple keyfile copy protection. The "watermark" thing seems to scare people but it's just there to tie a user to his/her copy of the synth. It doesn't affect the sound in any way and is simply tied to the .dll file as far as I know.Liero wrote:Is the copy protection on tone2 products still the same as in earlier versions (when many called the plugins actual malware)?
I think part of the rumors started because of the rather annoying and intrusive demo that suddenly opens your browser and goes to the Tone2 page.. and then some failed cracked version of Gladiator that went straight to a scary page telling you are using a cracked version or something (there was several pictures of this page in an old thread).
In short: In my experience there is no malware. Just a bunch of speculation from people who got caught using the cracked version and people who used the demo which starts the web browser automatically.
I might be completely wrong on this issue though.
Anyhow, in my experience Tone 2 has been extremely good. Solid software that never crashed for me, very good support from Bastiaan and great sounding unique synthesis.
Cheers!

You're not completely wrong, but Tone2 software "checks in" via your internet connection. Maybe it no longer does, but I had to go into my firewall settings and give Tone2 special permission for it to work. Frankly... I don't get it. I'm fine with NI and IK Multimedia that make me go though a call/response process, but it was weird not being able to run my legal software because it couldn't go behind my back to talk to the mother land. I'm pro anti-piracy, and I even deal with dongles because I know the importance of protecting your IP, but this felt a bit dirty IMO.bmanic wrote:I suspect it was quite a lot of hyperbole and pure malice in those rumors.
