Apple makes bento box lunches, Microsoft makes garbage plates.
I'll eat both, but I recognize that Microsoft doesn't understand bento lunches and isn't capable of making them.

Ben wrote this so long ago that nobody remembers who "Darren" was. Think we can all get past the childish "Hater!" "Fanboi!" nonsense and have a serious discussion -- or maybe even make some music?Ben wrote:What isn't KVR?
There are many things that KVR isn't but in particular the following aren't welcome:

Platform wars (Leave it Darren, it's not worth it…).
My thanks to those who have been staying on an even keel. You should be emulated... not in software, but in others' wetware.

i like apple, i own various apple products but unless apple are gearing up to release a version of ipad with osx and usb connection(which i would love too see) i really can't see the advantage of owning one. having a tablet which can do everything my laptop can with the fun added bonus of touch screen for portability sounds like a massive advantage over ipad just in an audio context.

I believe the term for people is now "Meatbags"Meffy wrote:Ben wrote this so long ago that nobody remembers who "Darren" was. Think we can all get past the childish "Hater!" "Fanboi!" nonsense and have a serious discussion -- or maybe even make some music?Ben wrote:What isn't KVR?

I'd heard "meat puppets" but not bags. Noted.
For the record, though I prefer Android I'd be pleased to use an Apple or Windows tablet -- if someone gave it to me. :-} Since nobody is going to do that, I'm cool with my old tablet-style laptop. True, it's bulkier than modern tablets. It's not multi-touch and really needs a stylus if I'm going to do a lot of precision work. But it's got a real keyboard, is a lot more powerful and runs full-strength software like Sonar X1, Reason, RAD Studio (Delphi and C++ Builder), Adobe Creative Suite 5, and so forth.
To me that's more useful than greater portability but of course everyone has their own criteria... which is cool; variety isn't just the spice of life any longer, it can be a whole meal.
No need to down someone else's favorites. More choices = GOOD.

iPad is great, outstanding even. But I think the Metro interface on Windows beats it and Microsoft has a good shot at being very competitive with Windows 8 tablets...however the odds are that Apple has something up its sleeve for iOS6

Unless I see it myself in action, I won't believe a second Microsoft is able to produce anything that runs smooth in realtime, e.g. soft scrolling without flickering or shaking. And inbetween an error window popping up forcing you to update and restart the tablet, or some random error message "Multi touch display driver error". And only God himself knows how Microsoft *will* stuff up of what they understand to be HTML5 (and I'm *not* religious
).
BTW I prefer Windows to OSX.

My iPad2 was my 1st ever Apple product, and I've been beyond impressed with the whole experience.
I've been a Windows user since 3.1, and have no inclination to switch to OS for desktop/laptop, but the iPad did make me an Apple fan.
If someone came out with a Windows8 tablet that could compete with the iPad and COST SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS, that would be something...

Music-wise Windows 8 will definitely be an iPad-killer (and an Android killer). The iPad is great at what it does, elegant, beautiful, smooth, etc, but it is extremely limited as a music platform because of limitations in iOS. On the other hand, all the leading DAW companies who run on Windows today are already starting to look at Windows 8 and will realize that they only have to upgrade the user interface to make a fully-fledged DAW with touchscreen functionality. These will blow iPad and Android out of the water as far as DAW apps are concerned.

Windows 8 will be the main OS for most users in the next years. If such OS is running on a pad/mobile computer people will IMO prefer it.
It could be a game changer.

That will never happen... It is like saying that nobody is/will be using Macs in professional studio environment.grozbat wrote:Music-wise Windows 8 will definitely be an iPad-killer (and an Android killer).
Are you kidding?
iOS rules the world of music apps at the moment and I don't see anything matching it for the next few years at least...
You can dream of course...

Arm tablet and Intel tablet means 2 markets home and business .
Sounds like a good idea but software wont be compatible .
HP will buy in big as usual at a markup.
The power difference between the 2 tablets might be an issue for developers.
Dont expect cheap software like ipad dual development will cost more money.
What if you have an arm tablet and the software is made for intel your screwed.
32 bit or 64 bit.
Microsoft always has more viruses so you will need virus software.
Most people will eventually opt for intel , leave the arm err legless.
I have had a psion,palm,android,ipad and laptop.
We all have used windows at some point . You know CTRL ALT DEL , regedit , virus.
But the ipad offers the best range of Portable apps for music.
Anyway it might not matter soon html 5 web audio api could be the future.

It will take them years if not decades to upgrade...if ever! Meanwhile I'll stick to my iPad 2 but plz PM me as soon as Orion Platinum is ready for windows tablets and touchscreens.grozbat wrote:On the other hand, all the leading DAW companies who run on Windows today are already starting to look at Windows 8 and will realize that they only have to upgrade the user interface to make a fully-fledged DAW with touchscreen functionality..

If that is going to be the case, I' d surely prefer the simplicity and dedicated apps of the iPad 2.plastic wrote:Like a netbook with touchscreen.
Also, is a controller like this

going to arrive anytime soon to the windows tablets?
Don't get me wrong. I would love a window tablet as simple as the iPad and with dedicated software, but I am middleaged and don't have a lifetime to wait for it.
