Ye thanks mate, I think this will be the easiest solution.robojam wrote:It's possible to Rewire a slave to Live, use the intruments in Live, third-party VSTs and instruments in the Rewire slave.dcfac73 wrote:I'd like to sequence in Ableton and use Reaper for the fx. I've done it before and I often Rewire Reason or eXT to Live as slave. Not sure if I'm reading it right and if you're maybe just not setting up Rewire right.
Rewire alternative?

if you sequence with ableton and third parties vst you will not be able to use ableton as a slave to receive its audio inside reaper !robojam wrote:It's possible to Rewire a slave to Live, use the intruments in Live, third-party VSTs and instruments in the Rewire slave.dcfac73 wrote:I'd like to sequence in Ableton and use Reaper for the fx. Not sure I understand what you're saying.
If Live is the Rewire slave, then you should be doing the sequencing in Reaper, not in Live.
Or if you want to do the sequencing in Live, why not load the VSTs in Reaper?

Yeah, sorry, always get master and slave mixed up. I want to use Ableton to sequence vsti's (pref in Ableton-this would make Ableton the master) , feeding audio into Reaper , where it will be processed by 3rd party fx , and where monitoring will take place.
I think , with all the answers I've been given, that this won't be possible, and that I'll need to load the instruments and fx in Reaper. I was thinking, for some reason, that it would be tidier to have the instruments and midi sequencing , done in the same environment. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Sorry to all for dragging this on, but I've tried to use Reaper as slave to Ableton. I open Ableton first, and then Reaper. My problem now is that the Rewire plugin for Ableton won't load in Reaper. Why oh why is music software so complicated?dcfac73 wrote:Yeah, sorry, always get master and slave mixed up. I've never tried using Reaper with Rewire, but never had any issues at all in Live. The only things I've Rewired to Live are Reason, eXT and Plogue Bidule, but never had a problem with any of them.
My guess would be that there's a problem with Reaper rather than Live, but haven't had any experience with Reaper so can't confirm that.
