I am able to budget $100 a month to my hobby so please let me know what you think are the best plugins in that price range. It seems most top synths are starting @ $150, what are the economy but still very high-quality instruments out there? The kind isn't important, from VA to just plain weird, whatcha got? Thanks in advance!

for ambient, evolving apocolyptic, alien soundscapes...

H.G. Fortune synths ( can get a few for under $100.00 )
M-RGT Ambitron ( under $40.00 )

all others genres...I don't have a flippin clue.

Vanguard is pretty good. It was less expensive around Xmas though. I think it was going for $59 instead of $80.

Is it only synths you're interested in? Anyway good to keep an eye on the marketplace, you'll pick up a few good deals on there.

Not just synths, but all the best plugins that not-so-much money can buy

I'm just wondering what the crème of the crop is in this price range for all manner of plugins and applications for making music on the computer. So Reaper could be included, for example.

It's listed for $89 from what I see. EZDrummer is $69 though

If you can budget $100 a month, then take 2 months worth and you can buy any synth up to $200... which includes some amazing synths!

I've purchased virtually all of the synths I have in that price range: FM8, Ultra Analog, String Studio, Sampletank, Sonik Synth, Philharmonik CE, Z3TA+2, Wusikstation, Rhino, Harmless, Jamstix, KH Pop Rock Strings, etc. These were mostly special deals (e.g., audioMIDI no-brainers) or group buys, so follow KVR. Some of the above are normally in your price range.

The free players are worth looking at. I particularly like the Alchemy Player, for which you can buy several excellent soundpacks (normally $59, but again I usually find a way to get them discount).

One mans creme is another mans cream cheèse.

Check out HG Sounds plugins. Arp is a great, erm arp with a sequencer and scales, repitch and CC modulations. Vortex is a drum/midi/step sequencer that's evolved a bit since it went into public beta and well worth downloading. It's free during beta so you've got nothing to lose.

Imposcar is a good va and turns up in the marketplace every now again. Oh yeah, Alchemy Player is free and comes with some good sounds and you can expand it with sound banks. You can get the Waldorf Attack bundle for about $30 iirc if you look around online.
