My biggest gripe with SynthEdit creations was that typically they'd be pound-for-pound less efficient on the CPU than the equivalent solution would be outside of SE. Now that's not an issue for me personally as I've recently upgraded to a stupidly fast computer :hihi:

Soundquality has never been an issue with the best SE stuff, because the best stuff uses custom coding or 3rd party modules (The Chris Kerry stuff is really nice IMO). Even some of the freeware SE stuff is really good, like GTG synths, and HG Fortune, TubeOhm (anti-transpirant!), etc...

The other bane of synthedit are the "me too" generic synths created from the default parts. These almost always sound very bland and are all pretty much the same as eachother. If there was a way of filtering those out of the KVR database, I'd jump on it! :D

Don't get me wrong, it's great that SE got these people making their "my first synth" and maybe some of them went on to greater things, and used it as an educational experience... but none of that helps the sound of those plugins :hihi:

definitely be 'buying' it when i get paid (bank is empty)
Even as it is, it sounds very nice, thanks tube-ohm :tu:

I know it is free and all, but damn I am disappointed with its sound... cannot say its the worst ever, but I played two presets and removed it quickly.

Oh well can't say you didn't give it a really good shot can we !?

Nice one! Thanks! The TubeOhm site is cool but the english mistakes are a bit annoying even for non-english speakers like me! The synths are still good though.

I like the Apha Ray very much. :-)
I have much fun to program new sounds with it because it has a very
good gui and it is very easy to get the sound that I want to have.
I also like the sound quality.
Thank you to Tubeohm. :-)

Have been very much enjoying using Alpha-Ray. In my experience thus far it is capable of some truly thunderous bass sounds. I like the layout and general feel too.

It's interesting to read that someone removed it after checking out 2 presets - shows just how personal synth choice really is.

I unlocked the effects section last night, I think without that it does sound pretty thing and unspectacular, but with the effects it is very flexible and has some great tones. It was under $7 and I'm happy I bought it. If anyone is demo'ing it, be sure to turn on the effects, it makes all the difference. I wouldn't consider using it just as a free synth but the overdrive and chorus are great, it can really sound dirty without sounding bad. The filter and envelope displayes are helpful and the whole synth is pretty easy to program. I will be using this one a lot.

Funny,Was just coming to say the same thing!
Yes the drive and chorus do wonders, i really like them a lot! I wonder if the guy above realised no fx are enabled in the presets til you switch them on..

I'm guessing he didn't.

I think it sounds great. I played presets for a while and then asked myself how the pay version could be better. Oh, there's an effects section. It's almost donationware, but the effects are nice.

Sounds great, Totally worth the 6 USD to unlock the effects. Presets are mostly B&B and the features aren't fancy-dancy, like a seq or arp or other things a lot of synths have, but the quality is in the sound. I could use it as a go-to synth all the time. Looks like there's a raffle in the works too, for paying customers.

Likewise, I heard the sound pre and post turning on the effects, and I really liked some of the preset sounds. Sure, a bit bread'n'buttah, but it's the good kinda buttah. The melty kinda smooth buttah that is oh so warm and goes great with some toasty bread.

Er, so, imagery aside, yeah I'm liking the sound of this synth a lot, and I can see it fitting really well in some stuff I'm working on right now. :D

(might have to go back and update some of my other projects' sounds too) Definitely a $7.00 well spent.

i purchased it after listening some demos on the tubeohm site. haven't tested it yet. even if it turns out to be not my cup of tea, 7 $ is not a big loss. demos are promising though, worthwhile buying it..hopefully :)
