Nokia is the biggest phone manufacturer by far. Loads more Nokia's sold every year than anything else. But that's because they have a very large scale of phones from 15 euro ones to the high end models. They bring communication to every one.

Man, what Windows 8 tablet do you have and where where did you buy it? I thought they weren't going to be on sale for nearly a year yet. Please let me know, because I want one now.

Holy Cow! :o I just ran a "iPad killer?" search on google. Seems like they have tried to kill the iPad Since the day it was born. Maybe they will get lucky with the Windows tablet , you never know. :hihi:

I can only speak for myself and I am tired of windows. It is too clustered for my humble needs and I hate being an unwilling expert in how to turn off background services and other tweaks to make windows behave the way I like it to.

The simplicity of the iPad is what I personally need for mobile music production.

Regarding the Apps, it is a dream no longer to have to worry about copy protection like dongles, C-R, relicensing or compatibility issues. I have 80+ music apps and have never needed support for any them.

In all, to me iPad is much more than touch screen control and if I ever would like
to return to windows, I' d rather prefer my good old netbook. Better the devil you know.

Alternatively, MS would have to make a cut-down version of windows and the devs would have to make dedicated and equally simplified versions of their software for it. Then I might be in.

Cheers

2. They don't seem to take into account the competition, since they even didn«t mention it
3. The latest iPhone is widely regarded as a disappointment, not worthing the massive marketing barrage, and the prices asked.

Now, IMO these "studies" made by companies nobody knows about, seem to me as accurate and credible as the financial ratings - they are at service of those who pay more for them.

So, the question remains. IMO, of course. Again, I think the iPhone is a very good product, but not worthing the price asked, and not my cup of tea - but I am just one, and there are millions of customers, all with their own opinion.

The same applies to the tablet market, so, there will hardly be a kliller for anything, but real competition is always welcome. Again, IMO, of course.
Yeah, the 4s is a huge disappointment. That's why it did so well, and Apple's stock is over $500.

There doesn't need to be an iPhone killer, Android killer, Windows killer, etc. There's enough room in the market for multiple players. As soon as one becomes too dominant with no competition, what remains becomes stagnant.

Windows 8 tablets, ipad killer??
LMFAO! :)

I don't think windows 8 tablets will be an iPad killer. IOS is great because of its simplicity. Apps that are universal take the cake. I can't imagine plopping my windows DAW onto a tablet and being able to run the same processing power, let alone transferring that into a phone device. I was never a big proponent of Apple devices until my work gave me an ipad2 to support others in the organization and have remote access to work through VPN that I could get anywhere 3G was available. It took a day before I decided that this format was where it's at and the single purchase for apps that run on up to 5 devices + app pricing and free updates, just made sense, all in devices that are not plagued with Windows issues. There are limitations for sure, but the limitations are easily overcome by simplicity in operation.

Kind of like having a great DAW that turns into a bloated monster with too many features and completely reworked workflow to support those features. This gets in the way of creativity to me.

I think a windows format tablet will be neat, but will never be an iPad killer.

Now the iPad/iPhone stuff has me curious to try Mac laptops, but my windows machine will remain because it has great workflow now, just not touch or portability.

Windows has a big catch up task for mobile platform. iPad alternative someday, but iPad killer is not going to happen anytime soon.

I have a coworker who is a developer and is so anti-apple and complains that you can't do anything on the IOS devices, but to me, that is the beauty of it. I work on computer and network systems all day long and when I get home, I just use the iPad or my iPhone for fun without hassles. I don't want to dive in under the hood for any reason.

Apple really should get with the program of USB or reader support for sd cards though.

Android tablets have the same simplicity. My son's ASUS Transformer is a thing of beauty and simple to learn and operate. Too bad they can't get with the program for midi and audio like Apple or Windows

Here's my prediction:

1. Apple will soon release the iPad 3 and it will have tens of thousands of great Apps right from the start and technically it's advanced and 3-4 years beyond competition.

2. Windows will perhaps soon release a device that has almost no apps.

3. The windows thing will be marketed as "the iPad killer". I think not.

End of story.

I doubt they'll make any indent in the Ipad market. If you want to suffer constant crashes and hacker attacks then go ahead spend your cash on a Win8 mobile / tablet. And regarding apps they'll have none from the start. I'm skipping that cake, and keep making new beats on my Ipad2.

i would, but can't afford it (i'm not going to steal it). i have to choose very carefully where i put my spare cash each month; i often have to use it on food or gas or other 'practical' things. i'm on a fixed income and who cares why am i saying all this, so the answer is no.

Does Win7 have aggregate audio devices? i just learned a bit about what the point of that is on Mac OS X and it sounds like yet another reason for me to abandon Windows, if not for all the work i have in Sonar. :? Sigh, it's hard to justify quitting the 3GHz dual core full size computer and turn to my two MacBook Pros of lesser brute power and connectivity, just because i despise Windows. (most of my stuff was bought when i was employed; i should have bought a Mac Pro instead)

It's not just Vista vs Win7, it's the whole Microsoft architecture. Registry, file system layout, GUI, behaviors...

That is why I doubt the whole iPad/iPod/iPhone killer thing.

There really is no competition when it comes to actually being able to use the iOS program right from the start.

Now, if one wants to do the piecemeal scenario then, sure, go with the Windows7 thing. Like I said before, I use all manner of stuff here so it really is not a big deal with me...

Here's how I see it going with Windows tablets:

If the predominant Windows 8 tablet ends up being those with x86 chips, then I think Windows 8 tablets will be a success, both for the niche market of audio (and general creative types) as well as the public at large. However, if the predominant Windows 8 tablet ends up being the ARM-based models, then I don't see it being a huge success, since really what it all boils down to is app selection. Seeing as how developers will need to code/compile their app for not only the ARM platform, but also the Metro interface, there may be a lull in application selection at launch.

They're also extremely late to the game, with the iPad entering its third generation, and Android tablets entering their second generation with ICS.

Having experience with Windows Phone 7 I have high hopes for Windows on a tablet. I actually wish they would have just ported Windows Phone 7 to tablet, like Apple and Google did with iOS and Android respectively, instead of porting full Windows to it. But we'll see!

Competition is good, and there's room for everyone.

Ive noticed that products billed as 'killers' rarely come close to killing the product they meant to kill.

They're called "Ipad killers" because Ipad killed the competition when it was released.

The term is intended for attention-getting. Nothing more. (as in, getting attention of those who think iPad is the best product, regardless of whether said people own one)
