With Apple - It seems that people are always willing to pay more for less if the price is exortionate. They think its the sign of quality. Its just the sort of marketing demographic that designer clothes are aimed at, the gullible :-)

And you continue to think in your own one-dimensional way that your needs mirror everyone else's. They don't. Why you continue being insulting to people that happen to like iOS stuff is beyond me. Perhaps it makes you feel better about yourself.

I'm actually more surprised at the amount of trolling in here, without any thoughtful dialog.

Nobody "Needs" these devices, they are a luxury. They are aimed at a certain demographic because of this. If I appear to be one dimensional, its spurred on by Fanbois comments. You wont get thoughtful dialog, too many variables. You will get pages of speculation though.

Well, with all due respect it's not your place to define whether or not they're luxury devices, or whether people "need" them or not. I am referring to tablet computers in general (all of which cost around the same price point for a decent one, be it iOS or Android).

Many companies are switching to $500 tablets instead of $1100 laptops (that's what businesses pay for quality laptops; no business I know of uses the crap found at consumer electronics stores) for many purposes because they're light, comparatively cheap, and they do what's required. They're needed for business.

My next machine at home doesn't need to be a laptop; I can get a desktop for home and have the tablet for when I'm traveling to communicate both with the home office and my family. Need? I guess it's what you define as "need". You don't need a phone, television, car, etc. either to live. But I would no longer define them as luxury items either, anymore.

And I've already attempted to bring thoughtful dialog into this based upon experience with iOS, Android, and Windows Phone 7, and the reading I've done on Windows 8 and the ARM stuff, and what MS is planning on doing. I guess there's no sense in trying to discuss that interesting topic, because we'd much rather lob the fanboy insults, wouldn't we?

It does not matter what the product is. Be it Apple or some other tablet. They are made to 'satisfy' a particular 'need' that is perceived, by some, to be there. In the marketplace. No more. No less.

If you 'perceive' that you have no need for the thing, fine.

If you 'perceive' that you have a need for the thing, that is fine as well.

The company I work for decided to go with iPads simply because they fill a particular need within the corporation for a more compact system than what we had before. And they have proven their worth, for us.

I do not see a 'need' to bash people simply for their decision to buy into, or not, this. :?

A thoughtful dialog is hardly possible with most iOS users, because of THEIR one dimensional view. I barely see one if the iOS prayers sticking to facts. As soon as you bring facts on the table all you get back is unrelated comments. Now you wonder about my comment...

Really? So now there are actually FACTS that can predict the apocalypse of the iPad? :o :-o

I am hopelessly addicted to my iPad 2, so I would love to hear about the facts that can save me from this terrible disease. Please bring them on Nostradamus, bring'em on!

You are wellcome, mate, but how about those facts? Are you going to post them or are they secrets?

At present, Lemur has turned my iPad into a permanent fixture in my daw.

What I feel I have purchased is a 1/3rd cost Mackie Controller that just so happens to allow me to browse the net, edit pictures, knock up a beat for importing later into my real DAW. I also use the drawing/painting apps which I also find extremely enjoyable.

Nothing at all will ever take that away from my iPads appeal for me so I guess I am a fanboy. Even if a win8 tablet does much the same when they are out, so what's the problem?? Other people might (and they do, obviously) share my enthusiasm which we try to share with others. Nothing sinister about our suggestion, we just want to offer others who are curious some advice. Any 'limitations' are easily overcome by most users and the procedures that do such, iTunes for example is far from garbage which to me at least seems to work much like windows explorer.

What are win8 tablets doing to compete with my experience with my iPad? I'm not locked into apple stuff, far from it, so what will make me, as a musician, look at a different platform?

I'm genuinely interested.
No, that Glitch is meant to be there.....

A few posts back I stated that you can't install DAWs like Cubase, Reason, Live etc. on any iOS device, while it'll be possible on a Windows 8 tablet. Now go and look what kind of stupid and unrelated comment I got back for that.

It's been stated quite a few times that Windows 8 on a tablet is not just a dumbed down app compatible OS, but also includes the FULL Windows OS. That alone has a huge advantage over any mobile only OS, but if you and others like to continue to ignore these kind of facts, fine. The ones who are truly interested in the technology will certainly recognize the advantages.

Aha. And you think people are buying iPads because they do not know that you can not install Cubase and Logic on them and once they find out they will buy a windows tablet instead?

You know, I think you have missed the point about the simplicity of the iPad, which have been stated several times now.

Yeah, almost as stupid and unrelated as this one:

Almost!

Sweetie: What is of advantage to people is entirely a question of what they personally need and their just as personal preferences. To people who want less features, more features is quite obviously not the solution. Anything apart from this simple fact are just hallucinations of dedicated iPad-haters who wouldn' be able to distinguish a fantasy bullit from a real one even if their ass was shot off with the latter.
