Aha. And you think people are buying iPads because they do not know that you can not install Cubase and Logic on them and once they find out they will buy a windows tablet instead?

You know, I think you have missed the point about the simplicity of the iPad, which have been stated several times now.

Yeah, almost as stupid and unrelated as this one:

Almost!

Sweetie: What is of advantage to people is entirely a question of what they personally need and their just as personal preferences. To people who want less features, more features is quite obviously not the solution. Anything apart from this simple fact are just hallucinations of dedicated iPad-haters who wouldn' be able to distinguish a fantasy bullit from a real one even if their ass was shot off with the latter.
Sweetie, the question was if Windows 8 tablets can "kill" the iPad, while "kill" can have several meanings. In this case "kill" can be exchanged for "outsell" and/or "outperform". If they outsell the iPad? Who knows. Maybe in a year or two we know. Do they outperform iPads? Most certainly yes! Simply because of the features (mobile OS vs. combined mobile AND full OS). So that IS an advantage. Like it or not. And please don't confuse your personal view about simplicity with the actual question. If people want simplicty over features and other advantages is a completely different story and NOT the topic.

Of course people don't buy iPads with the expectation to install their DAWs on it. That wasn't even the question. But with Windows 8 tablets YOU CAN. That again is an advantage over any iPad or Android tablet, which was my whole point and an argument to support the initial question of this thread. Get it now?

It is the topic because my personal view is obviously shared by many iPad buyers and part of the reason they like it. So any argument based on better features or performances for the death of the iPad seem invalid if you take people's reasons to buy it into account. Feature and performance wise the iPad is already well-challenged by Android tablets like Samsung Galaxy 2 and this hasn' t killed it yet in any of the meanings you ascribe to the term. You see, such features doesn't mean shit if there are no apps to replace those beloved iPad apps. Now add the fact that most iPad buyers already own a PC and therefore haven't bought it to get another one, you may see the flaw of your assumptions. And if you claim that changing windows to a tablet edition instantly will make tons of daws and VSTis ready for touch screen control without further modifications of these programs, I' d like to see some proof. To me it sounds like a pipedream. But of course, dreaming is legal, just don't pretend dreams have anything to do with facts.

Here is a wise saying I learned from my mom when I was a kiddo and that she learned from her mom:

It is hard to foretell....

....especially about the future!

Think about it.

Okay. I' ll challenge myself on this one: I predict that this thread sooner or later is going to be locked! Let's see how great a fortune teller I am with regard to this.

It's been stated quite a few times that Windows 8 on a tablet is not just a dumbed down app compatible OS, but also includes the FULL Windows OS. That alone has a huge advantage over any mobile only OS, but if you and others like to continue to ignore these kind of facts, fine. The ones who are truly interested in the technology will certainly recognize the advantages.
Actually, it's a fact that you won't just be able to install DAW's on a Windows 8 tablet if that Windows 8 tablet is ARM-based, as I've already stated.

If the ARM architecture becomes the preferred tablet platform, then it'll be no different than the iPad in that regard. Application developers will need to redo their apps for not only ARM, but also the Metro interface. And generally it won't be as easy as hitting a recompile button.

If they end up being x86-based, then hopefully they'll use something other than Atom processors, since they're horrid for anything like a DAW.

You can state all you want that Windows 8 is not a "dumbed down" OS, but that is HIGHLY dependent on the direction Windows 8 tablet makers go in terms of processor architecture. Right now the industry seems to have a hard-on for ARM though.

I'd say that even if you could install Pc daws on a tablet, it is going to take a lot more to make daws based on moving and clicking a mouse curser ready for touch screen. Then there is the size of it all. Running Sonar on a 10 inch netbook can be inconvenient enough already due to the reduced size of it all. Now try imaging hitting all the small bottons and sliders with your thumbs and you can already hear people screaming in dispair.
