I started learning cello few months ago. I have an electric one so I'm having plenty of fun playing it through guitar effects and such. I do try to avoid the run-of-the-mill distortion sound though.

you sure you dont have that backwards?

My primary axe is my synthesizer. If anyone says "that counts as a keyboard" I'll be deeply offended.
that's kind of qwerty :hihi:

I play wind synth: a MIDI wind controller (Yamaha WX7) in front of various synth modules -- this year it's Mopho and Zebra.

I was really enjoying that video till 5:24 When I couldn't remember the name of that EWF tune. I loved that song. I had it on vinyl, cassette and 8 track.

It finally came to me but I'm not giving up the name.

Hi Cordelia :D I am also looking at a kit for a baritone uke...maybe next year :)

edit: btw, my grandson plays my dulcimer all the time...sort of :hihi:
edit 2: btw Cordelia, chopsticks are used for tube amp repair silly :hihi:

Hi Hink!
I had to look up kantele but I've seen a psaltery before. Both are beautiful instruments!

I played trumpet from 5th grade through high school, but haven't really touched it since (27 tears ago! Damn, how did that happen?!). I learned to play a bunch of instruments in my music major days, but was pretty bad at most of them, and couldn't play any of them these days. So, I guess besides keys, bass, and (marginally) guitar, the only thing I can sorta play now is a little harmonica and the handful of hand drums and percussion toys that we've bought over the years for our son (he's 4). I'm hoping that as he gets older and more interested in music that there will be opportunities for me to learn some new ones along with him.

thanks hink and tapper mike!!!!

got a couple other EWF tunes programmed into the chorder/wivi config too, can't hide love and september.

been over a year since ive had the chance to do can't hide love but september gets called often.

occasionally shining star gets called and i just use brass octaves for that and let the other horns cover harmonies, i should probably map that one out too but i always forget in between shows, maybe this will remind me.

i love windsynth, i doesnt bust your chops like trumpet so you can play all night long and not suffer the next day, its feedback free so the soundman always likes me, and on songs where horns just dont belong i can strum chords on the free pettinhouse steel string and nylon string guitars.

lately ive been loving the samplemodeling stuff and the garritan stradivari violin and gofriller cello, both can use breath control for bowing intensity so you just blow harder to bow harder, very intuitive and makes me look more forward to the next time we do a country tune cause i can fiddle away and have fun.

i keep sputting off trying to setup a steel guitar sound thatd be nice for some country things, id have to figure out how to independently bend notes and id need to maybe get a pedal to handle volume, i dunno. itll be involved for sure.

Keyboards - intermediate level from lessons years ago and self-teaching.
Flute - five years of lessons recently.
WX5 - but I don't use it much since my ladder accident, which left me with sensitive front teeth.
Harmonica - just a little, self-taught. Is there no MIDI controller based on harmonica?

I think learning instruments, especially learning them well, is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your music. Just do it.
