Analyzing Genre Books?

Hi, does anyone know of a good book I can probably get at my local library that shows how to figure out how to sound like a certain genre, what is a genre, and how to construct your own genres? I've always made up my own songs and have my certain sound, but I've never tried to copy another genre except for metal because for some reason that's not that hard to figure out in my opinion. But other genres I want to know what makes them their genre. Thanks.

I think it really depends on the genre. If you are looking for books on how to play Jazz, then yes, there are many. Rock, Pop and Country also have books to help you write for those genres. Electronic and Dance I don't think you are going to have much luck since the genres come and go so quickly by the time someone writes a book, the genre will be out of date.

Construct has more to do with influence and culture then anything else. Usually those who seek to be chameleon's don't vest themselves enough in one field to develop not only the skills but the pschye to make the leap. Generally one latches on to one or two pesona's and merges them with their own sense of self. It comes from doing a lot of listening and a lot of playing in that field.
If you are intersested in dabbling in rock, pop, blues, folk, country jazz first spend some time listening to it intently, Push away anything that is not specific to the genre. Then try to write in the genre' good bad or ugly. A lot of people have to flush through the bad to get to the good.
Having said all of that there is no better resource Then band in a box for getting a grip on style and expounding on it.
