Looking for VSTs similar to DIVA

I think what the OP means is that he thinks Diva is cool because it *isn't* particularly trance-oriented, compared to the other high-quality VA synths which have gone before it, which do have something of a trance slant, at least from a marketing/preset perspective.
Go for Tyrrel as well if you haven't. Also speaking of freeware: TAL-Noisemaker and (particularly) Xhip are simply amazing and would be if not free.

I'd agree with DCAM, ACE, G-Force synths. And to some extent ultra analog. But the others there I don't find anything like DIVA at all. I don't think he's going for any vintage VA style synth. I know what he's talking about when he says the "Power" of it. Minimonta is another good example of a synth with that raw power. I find that soft synths often tend to fall into the "smooth" or "punchy/power" camp. Synths like Arturia, Xils and sylenth1 are very much the "smooth" camp if you ask me. Whereas DIVA has the power sound.Lotuzia wrote:To Op : So Virtual Analog synths (aka substractive synthesis) :

What's trance? Is that what kids used to listen to before dubstep?

Sorry I hadn't replied earlier, but I knew that I wouldn't be able to get back to my post until later today. I figured by that time I would get at least a few responses to my post; I was really pleasantly surprised to see all of the great suggestions.
Sendy was exactly right - perhaps I should have worded my post more clearly by saying that, while Sylenth, z3ta, and some other VSTs have lots of power, they tend to be more trance oriented, and I was looking for VSTS that had lots of power such as DIVA, which isn't so trance oriented. At any rate, again many thanks for the suggestions (they were the kind of VSTs I was looking for) and I will be checking them out shortly.

Thanks for clarifying that. ImpOSCar 2 is excellent out of the box and DCAM's Cypher can sound closer (after a lot of tweaking, the presets are no good) to my Alesis Andromeda than just about anything else I've tried.

No Probs Echoes, I only gave a list of capable (for this or that reason, and only imho ) VA synths.Echoes in the Attic wrote:I'd agree with DCAM, ACE, G-Force synths. And to some extent ultra analog. SEM V for example has a very smooth and non aggressive sound. Wich does not mean it can sound "huge" and "fat", or "dense" in a mix (yes I know take all these terms for what they worth .......
Now give me a mix including synths inside your list of power synths and the associated Midi File and I'll try to make it sound as "power" with ... some other synths. Its quite possible that you could be right, but I can take take this challenge just for the fun of it. This could be an interesting test I think.
For whatever reason for example, I'm -almost- always using Ultra Analog for very smooth sounds. So that my perception is indeed very different from yours. I also especially like ImpoSCar, this one I also use for punchy stuff like you. But it can do cream for ears as well so ......

Can an Andromeda also function as a midi controller? (sorry for the OT)
And can you post some audio of Cypher sounding like it?

a synth isnt trance orientated, only the presets, so try looking for diff presets or make your ownterriandralph wrote:I am looking for VSTs that have the raw power of DIVA but are not so trance oriented (Sylenth, z3ta, etc.) Perhaps Vaz? Any other possibilities?

People find a bit rough digital sound often more suitable for typical trance leads and plucks. A thick and analog sounding synth is there not the best solution. That's why a lot of guys in this genre using Sylenth, Vanguard, Virus etc. The same why people don't use Sylenth for bass sounds (ok, some will but most of them preferring there another sound like from FXPansion Strobe, Diva,...).Kriminal wrote:a synth isnt trance orientated, only the presets, so try looking for diff presets or make your ownterriandralph wrote:I am looking for VSTs that have the raw power of DIVA but are not so trance oriented (Sylenth, z3ta, etc.) Perhaps Vaz?
