Hitler is already angry about it...

This little credit card sized marvel could be useful for external DSP boxes as it has digital HDMI audio output, as well as a headphone socket.

It's just a heads-up really, as I thought it looked very cool, and ridiculously cheap. And they're a charity.

Dave.
It looks berry good :hihi:

Sorry

A friend was crowing he'd snagged one then realised his delivery date was 16th April ie. not one from this first batch.

Ah well, time to finish the other projects off first then... :)

So what sort of case would you put this thing in to make it usable as something like a media centre hooked up to a TV?

Some more here: http://www.raspberrypiforums.com/forum/ ... hp?f=7&t=9

Written my first piece of code for it already:

Code: Select all

10 print "simonden is cool"
20 goto 10
:hihi:

Dude, that was MY first piece of code too! (Except mine said "Mike".) Back on the Apple ][!

You might want to add a space at the end though so it formats in a cool, scrolling, diagonal pattern.

I was thinking of forgetting about a case per se and just have a plastic/perspex top and bottom with four long bolts holding the sandwich together. Wasn't planning on having it on display so could be tucked behind the telly. Of course that would leave everything very open so for tidiness, I may get a bigger enclosure and bundle everything inside (wireless adapter? wireless keyboard dongle?)

Vintage cigar box could be cool. :)

Y'know, I got my invite from RS and then forgot all about it. So last February... :)

What are your plans for it? Read a couple of times recently where people have had trouble with them nearly overheating. Sounds like heatsinks are a good idea if you're planning on constant video streaming etc.

Once I've got it up and running, and have been through the various (delightfully sparce!) materials, I might just see what's come with it.

I'm hoping at the very least some form of gcc is on it.

I'm really interested in the GPIO part of it as I'm curious to manipulate the IO of those pins and get ideas about hardware to control with it. I'll start with buzzers and little things at first and then see where to go from there.

It really is just indulging a thoroughly geeky part of me and I can't say I really have a set purpose for it yet! :hihi:

Interesting to hear about the overheating, I'll have to keep an eye (and a nose) ready for that. I'm not waiting another few months for a replacement! :P

i got mine a fortnight ago, but ive been too busy to hook it up to a monitor...

Post

I just realised I have an HDMI cable, but no HDMI->DVI adapter... so I won't be hooking it up to a monitor any time soon either. :help:

[edit - I do have an S-Video cable though, so TV it is... though unfortunately it's not particularly easy to read anything. ]

This is the post that caught my eye: http://hackaday.com/2012/06/26/adding-h ... pberry-pi/

Thanks! They say the sinks stay on with just thermal compound, but the board is quite a fiddly thing to handle (as I've discovered this evening). It'd be a hard job not to knock them off by accident just holding it whilst plugging in the various cables.

I may look into what casing solutions people have developed for it and see if any have a bit of 'headroom' for heatsinks.

I don't think I'll be doing any streaming video, but I do quite a bit of work with Ogre3D ( www.ogre3d.org ) and I'm quite keen to get that up and running with OpenGL ES on this device, and I imagine that similar to the streaming video that might heat up the board quite a bit.
