Some Ultra Analog audio clips, from our two banks Nec + Ultra and Fx Ceremony (an all Fx soundbank ) :

Diverses Leads, Basses, Fx

UA1 Pads and Atmos

UA1 Keys

And a great classic Rock/pop track made with our Nec+Ultra soundbank

Circle by Michael 2 :tu:

Now a simple gonzo demo of our Fx Ceremony soundbank :

Space Cats

Nec + Ultra 260 instruments Soundbank

And yes you should probably try the Xils3 LE version at least. Very affordable and, as a modular, very capable of spacy instruments like those found on some Gong albums. + it will sound different from all other Vstis ( note that I prefer to say "different" than "best" like some people usually do : As an owner of several old analog synths, I know they sound different, while none I would say sound "best" than the other, thoug of course one can prefer an Odyssey Vs a Model D, thats a question of taste. Same with soft synths )

On a positive note: Clemens found a nifty improvement that makes Diva up to 20% less hungry...

That's great! I'm actually like to render tracks to audio once I am happy with them, just out of practice, so in a way Diva wouldn't be much of a CPU hog unless I'm working on an unrendered track. But right now price is my biggest limitation, I'm on disability, and spending way more than I can really afford on all this stuff. But I feel like my bones are breaking, in pain constantly and it is for life, so am indulging myself a lot with this little hobby. I know I can get Ultra Analog for $100 or less, maybe for $50, so that is why it is at the top of my list right now, it sounds good and is easy for me to tweak to get the sounds I like. If cash was no issue I'd definitely get Diva instead, even if it brought my computer to it's knees on occasion :) I am very happy for the option to compose at low/render at high quality, that really is very helpful. Urs if you are ever feeling charitable... :) I love Tyrell and should try all your stuff.

Best Best Best. Nja na na na naaaa na. Pooey on you. Icky-boo baba.

Sorry, just had to get that out of my system.

@Urs: that sounds wonderful! Any idea when we can expect the patch?

OT: I just remembered another one I demoed recently, a very nice low-footprint synth that doesn't get the attention it deserves: Loomer's Aspect. Try out the demo, there are some nice retro sounds included.

I owned UltraAnalogue for a while, then sold it.
It was just okay sounding, with knobs that are way to small.
It isn't that good compared with other 100 dollar synths.
ACE is better imo.
I'm looking to sell my license of Tassman4 though if you want that.
It's much better than UA imo, but also much more complex.
Much cheaper at 65usd too.
PM me if interested.

Well, I may need to rethink Ultra Analog, still it sounds quite good to me personally. But I just noticed on the Ace webpage that the demo makes a crackling sound occasionally, does Diva do the same? Would this explain the 'glitches' I heard even in the lower-cpu patches? If so that is reassuring, Diva could be in my future :) I am not sure I want a modular system like Ace or Tassman, really what I want is a straightforward VA synth. But I also am commiting to only buying one more instrument plugin, I have basically squandered most of my budget for the next year already. With that said, perhaps Diva is actually the best buy and will have the longest usefulness into the future. I love the patch browser and interface in general in all the modern U-he synths.

Thanks for reading me

Sorry my system has some expression willings sometimes too

Nja na na na naaaa na is also a good sequence to balance your arguments. You set a too high level of discussion for me, so I'll just let it like this ( muted ) :)

To the OP: I don't want to spam your thread, but Lotuzia always shows up in these "VSTi recommendation threads" with his faux humility, and places a thinly-disguised ad for Xils synths somewhere in there (he works for Xils), usually after gratuitously naming some "other" synth to hide his true intentions. It grates on your nerves if you visit here more often... at least, it grates on mine. I don't mute him because he's sometimes got interesting opinions, but I like to shoot a little good-natured fun in his direction once in a while, in the faint hope he'll stop doing that.

The sad thing is, XILS really does make some bad-ass synths and doesn't need this kind of thing. So yeah, I can second the rec for Xils3-LE: wonderful plugin that's really affordable. It will get you that prog vibe.

I have been playing with Diva demo and have to say even on my slow laptop it could be workable. I am just seeing all the functions, how it can be a Juno or a Moog or whatever, and the high quality freeze makes running it in low rez modes digestable. Now I just need money :) but I think my mind is made up, Diva is what I want. I guess I'll keep my eye out for a deal and start saving up my cash.

Good decision! Urs requires a 9-month ownership period before someone is allowed to sell their license, so you might not find one on the marketplace just yet (there have been exceptions). Wishing you luck, though; maybe someone still owes you a birthday present?

Lord, even coming out of my tinny laptop speaking Diva sounds incredible.

Yep that's a winner there.
If you make some good sounds for it (even with the crackling demo), you can enter them in a sound design contest before april1st and win Diva (nfr).
Give it a shot, got nothing to lose.
Good choice though.

Maybe there will be a handicapped discount :-) or an ugly, untalented person discount. I think I qualify. I promise never to make any money with my "music" :-) anyhow there are plenty of free synthesis to work with while I save up. The main thing is not to disturb my wife or fail to pay the mortgage.

I have Tassman so never bothered buying Ultra Analog. I ended up with the Ableton version of Ultra Analog with Live. I like the sound of Ultra Analog. Particularly I like the low end. Same with Tassman. It sounds very good... round and musical and you do not have to ever go into the builder if you don't want to. Then it is basically a couple dozen individual synths. $65 for Tassman is an amazing deal really.

The thing with AAS synths is that they are what they are and are not generally upgraded. This is not a bad thing, but I feel a bit spoiled with the U-he synths. In Diva, you now get Poly, Poly 2, Mono, Legato, Duophonic and last/lowest/highest note priority options. Basic playing options like this keep evolving and migrate to all the U-he synths. Tassman is still kinda rudimentary in its playing options and you really cannot expect any development in that area. The Tassman GUI is dated and somewhat clumsy and you cannot expect any change. U-he synths on the other hand generally keep being refined in useful ways so do feel to me like better investments towards the future. No way I am getting rid of Tassman though I use it less than I used to. It is still a top notch synth with a vast sonic range. I would certainly choose Tassman over UA myself simply because the sound palette is so much bigger.

In any case, if you are not sure what to buy, there is no hurry. Try out Diva some more. The demo is not time restricted, nor does an individual session time out. You can also save and load presets. Make sure you are fine with the heavy CPU use. As far as a relatively straightforward VA, I would choose Diva over Ultra Analog without any hesitation. But see what speaks to you.
