It was in the CM Beats & Bass special. They were also offering 50% off the price of Geist. Im sure the magazine will still be available through myfavouritemagazines.co.uk, but sadly the 50% off deal is no longer valid

I'm in the US, plus I looked and they don't have that particular issue for sale any longer anyhow. I should get a CM subscription
how do you do that exactly?
Anyhow, yeah Geist may be perfect but I'm rather poor. I could get by just with the piano roll for the music I make, but of course Geist would change the music I make pretty dramatically I imagine.

I just saw Geist's price of $250 US, yeah I'll never be able to justify that. Does anyone has any other suggestions? iDrum is looking more likely as what I'll end up getting. $30 is way more likely for me to come up with.
Edit: I'm giving up on iDrum, the UI seems to slip between ok and unresponsive way too much. Other way more taxing plugins run smooth as silk on the same machine, so I don't think it's 'me.' Uninstall and move on.

My fave drum machine is Poise, but you said it's not what you are looking for, does this fit your needs...?

may be out of your price range though...

I think that is a little overkill too maybe, price and feature-wise. I was looking at Drumaxx @ $99 is more in the ballpark but I'm not thrilled about how it handles patterns, I would rather export to the piano roll. I dunno what I'm a gonna dobreakmixer wrote:My fave drum machine is Poise, but you said it's not what you are looking for, does this fit your needs...?

You should keep an eye out for Geist in the Market place section of the forum. I got a good deal through an offer at FXPansion and you find used copies for sale in this forum.

Oooooh.
I've been looking for something like poise for a while now!
I started out with Reason and as such got hooked on Kong Drum Designer.
I really like the creative flow that the design offers and Poise looks like it does anything that Kong can do, but I can route outputs much more easily and use some better FX to shape my sound.
I could read KVR for hours and find all kinds of great stuff! You guys rule!

After trying lots of plugins tonight, DK+ looks the best fit for me, [price and feature-wise. I'm going to keep playing with the demo and see how that goes, being able to easily send the patterns to the piano roll is a huge plus for me.

Actually, I still am not pleased with DK+ as a solution, I tested how long and easy it was to enter the same pattern in DK+'s sequencer vs. manually doing it in the piano roll, and the piano roll was easier, faster, and more direct. Plus while DK+ outputs a midi file, it doesn't appear to be a GM mapped file so its usefulness is tied to DK+. Maybe I can remap it, or maybe I am missing something, but it seems starting a pattern in the piano roll, hiding unused notes, and working there is much easier. Maybe I'm chasing a phantom, I can just work in the piano roll for free, and maybe wait till Geist or something premium is at a price I can afford. I took a look at Geist demo and have to say it wasn't so approachable to me, but then i need some sleep.
The one feature of iDrum I really liked was being able to draw out hat patterns etc. with dynamic variation quickly, and DK+ still doesn't do that, you set the levels one by one. I can do this easy enough in the piano roll if I just change my workflow a little. But I always want to spend money, that is the lesson I'm learning from this. Sometimes the better solution is to learn to use the tools you already have.

I remember trying Synapse Orion that it had a drumplayer like that.
http://www.synapse-audio.com/orioninstruments.html
It only works in Orion, but maybe you need to check it out.
What DAW do you use (I overlooked it perhaps)?

Reaper, and I'm happy with that, I tried Orion years ago but it wasn't really for me, I don't think it has changed that dramatically, plus the price doesn't tempt me to switch. I think I'm good with Reaper and the piano roll, I'll play with the demo for Geist and see if i get a grip on it, and if it makes sense for me. It doesn't seem the other options are any more elegant than the piano roll, maybe less so really.Vnex007 wrote:I remember trying Synapse Orion that it had a drumplayer like that.
