Why? Get an Apple TV and mirror your iPad display wireless- who wants to deal with HDMI cables.

Little OT, but should we except a price drop for iPads2, wouldn't mind 1 - 2 more for running lemur, midi sequencers,.. ?

Why get Apple TV with lower resolution than my fully functional TV anyways? The least thing Apple could do is to develop a HDMI receiver to put in the TV to mirror the Ipad screen.
Best regards from Johan Brodd.

They will likely develop an overpriced "HDMI Adapter" that goes along the iPad 3. As far as I understand the current "AV Digital Adapter" or whatever mirrors the iPad 2 pretty well?

There already is a HDMI adapter - works fine but like all iPad/Phone adapters made by Apple doesn't stay in very securely (unlike some third party ones that have push in pins to hold it in place). It already supports 1080p if using an iPad 2 (afaik the Apple TV only supports up to 720 using wireless so it is better). For games it's very useful and I also use it in teaching at Uni

Well that's that:

no quad-core - just a slightly souped up version of the existing chip and higher res graphics (plus better camera)

tbh I'm a little relieved - I'm halfway through my 2 year contract - if it had been a quad I might have been tempted to get it but now I can wait till next year and update when my contract ends.

I think the extra muscle will come in handy for some music apps.

No mention of how much memory this thing has. That could be key.

Double the RAM of iPad 2, quadruple iPad 1, 1GB (iPad 2 has 512MB, iPad 1 has 256MB).

1Gb is a nice upgrade. Definitely going to help for music apps.

Ha! Me too. If it had a far superior processor I'd be really tempted. As it is I can hang on. The way they're going I figure there will be an iPad 4 next year. I can wait for that.

The good news is the price drop on iPad 2 - that will get them into more people's hands.

And jailbreakers...
I'm sick of the lousy 256 MB on the iPod 4G... with all my tweaks going on, but obviously, the blame's on me, not Apple.

I think the upgrade is nice, Imma jump on the bandwagon, as I never owned an iPad.
The camera is the only useless tip on my mind, as who the... is going to use a huge 9.7" camera... but some people will disagree with me, that's fine.

Good thing they didn't ditch the old usb port for a new thunderbolt one, like some crazy speculations said.
Who knows what the iPad 4 will bring, seeing as the market is so filled nowadays, every week a new row of android devices and the like.. to keep Apple on its toes.

Feels kinda weird, that this is like an intermediate device right? While it should be a new "king" (like the iPhone 4 after the 3GS).
Or maybe there is not much more to stunning us with, except for the little personal kirks than people expect (bigger, smaller, more screen state, sd card slot -never-, etc.).

I feel it's a great time for a geek to be alive, as mobile tech is playing real fast the catching up game with "desktop PCs".
Seeing the demos of n00buntu running on that android phone, and the other android phone that becomes a tablet with a special accessory, one can only think as mobile devices become more powerful, running "Desktop OS'" on them (or the mixture that is Win8 for instance), what we can expect to improve now is Software.

When the first iPad came out it was groundbreaking, now what are we gonna get excited about? 8 cores? 4 GB RAM?
I think, like I said, we reached to the point when we now need to be impressed by software.
What better religion than music itself?

Quad Core or I stick to my iPad 2.

Actually I'm relieved too. I can wait the iPad 4 and iPhone 5 to spend Money on a new iDevice.

When you look at the Keynote you understand that for Apple this iPad update is al about better Graphics.
Not something that important for Music Production....

I don't mind being a generation behind.

Just grabbed iPad 2 32GB refurb for £360 wth further quidco %3 discount.

Happy days :-)

It's not something that's important for anything! Would be nice to have a higher res screen there's no doubt about that. But I have a feeling of those washing powder adverts where each new incarnation gets whites whiter than white even more so than the previous product! The screen on current models is already very good. It's not like we're straining our eyes to see it!

The impressive thing for me is that they've upped the game, kept the pricing the same whilst bringing down the price of the current iPad 2. So far as competition Apple clearly thought it was important to keep the pricing consistent whilst offering something to rival less expensive alternatives. A very smart move by Apple I think. People will be disappointed that a lot of the expected improvements didn't happen. But some of these were truly outlandish & would have surely pushed the price up to a point where the product was just not viable to many.

Yes, they did their marketing very well and this iPad 3 will be a winner, as always.

It is sure very interesting for the millions of average iPad customers.

I/we use the iPad as a creativ tool. And this new iPad is not gonna boost my creativity with these "new Features".

I maybe buy a Mac mini with the Money instead ;-)
