Hey,
I just got an ECHO Layla3g to try and get very low latency.
I'm having system trouble.
My computer is a Dell XPS 720,
3.00ghz Core2Extreme quad core
3 gig RAM
It's a 2007 model I think.

So I installed the latest drivers,
all OK.
Plugged the card into PCI slot and plugged in the outboard
And turned my computer back on.

It indicated there is an internal power problem on the faceplate LED->
flashing yellow.

So I took the card out and reseated the graphics card.
This has been a problem in past.

Then it boot up OK.

So I plugged the layla back in.
It seemed fine.
I tried to use it in the project I got it for,
but the latency was still high, I tried 512,
and decided to reboot to see if that ironed out the kinks.
When I tried to power up again-
same faceplate LED error.

So I pulled the Layla again,
and got my system going again after fiddling around.

I kinda felt the power to the mainboard plug go home a little,
then it booted.

Should I try the Layla again?
Or have i got incorrect voltage going to it?

I have backed up.

I took the plunge and put the card back in.
fingers crossed now,
it's up.
I had 1024 latency with Presonus Firestudio,
with Layla 256,
so if my system stays up it's a success.
Very pleased to practice my MIDI guitar.

OK,
It happened again--
It's something to do with power supply.
I got it going again--
pulled the Echo, and reseated the graphics card & power to main board,
fired it a couple of times and it went.
What do you think is causing this problem?
Is it the Echo Layla-or something else?

So-
What I have done is plug the system straight into the wall,
instead of power board.
Does this sound like it might fix the problem?

Damn-
I give up.
The ECHO layla just doesn't want to play nice with my system.
After a couple of reboots, it refused to boot.
Hmm-
Any ideas?

I Googled it and its a common problem for the PSU to go with flashing yellow indicator when it starts to fail.

so if it fails I can swap it out.
Back on Firewire, I have managed to run 2 ASIO threads on my Presonus,
so I think I have 64 samples latency.

Does the soundcard draw much power. I know adding a new graphics card can sometimes be too much for the PSU to handle. Pre built systems often have a PSU only just powerfull enough to run the spec as it was sold. The closer a PSU is to 100% the shorter it's lifespan. Corsair make very good PSU's

I suspect it draws too much power, yep.
It's funny though,
coz I used to have 2 graphics cards?
It's also a very chunky power supply AFAIK.

you have tried using different PCI slots right? sometimes the placement of an audio card can do that stuff - it did with my TC Powercore.. sometimes you need to swap places with another card..

Yes,
I switched the slots around as much as I could.
I have ordered the new PSU.
So peeps,
when I get the new PSU installed in 2 weeks--
u reckon try the soundcard again-or not?
I don't want to cane the new PSU.
Also-- is it the PSU u reckon?
I'm getting the intermittent booting problem now without the soundcard.

Yeah it's a 750watt PSU, I learn
I'd like to keep this machine running

Im pretty sure the PSU had a fault so the card should be ok with it as they dont draw much power.

System power problem-related to new souncard?
