so you do believe there is magic powder in analog gear that is not achievable through software?A world where people get to decide for themselves if a magnetic bracelet will improve their health, if $200 rock will make their speakers sound better, or if a Synthmaker compressor with a really analog sounding GUI really does sound as good as a Neve.

Also it is rather worrying that people will say things like "If we should worry about this then we will have to worry about Mcdonuts" or whatever as a flippant remark, yet not realising that yes we should worry about all the false claims made in the world and try and stop them before they grow out of complete control into ridiculous flights of fancy (I am fairly sure we have all had to re-educate somebody who has bought something so stupidly idiotic it was beyond credulity)
No, it looks to me exactly the same disgusting crap than yesterday.gpunk wrote:Hahahahah and this guy still has a job hahahaha

Well nothing good can be done with Synthmaker surely.........Oh wait 90% of my effects are made by me in Synthmaker hahahaha, I suspect I have more analogue gear than most people, yet still keep returning to software every time.tony tony chopper wrote:so you do believe there is magic powder in analog gear that is not achievable through software?A world where people get to decide for themselves if a magnetic bracelet will improve their health, if $200 rock will make their speakers sound better, or if a Synthmaker compressor with a really analog sounding GUI really does sound as good as a Neve.
At some point the realisation that nobody outside the little bubble you create when you work actually gives a fly f**k what you use and couldn't tell the difference anyway, really does set in
However at the same time, people who claim "Sounds analogue" "Sounds vintage" why do they even bother "Sounds good" is just so much less patronising for anybody who has actually used analogue or vintage (Most analogue and vintage sounded crap anyway)

I don't know about whether the gentleman who posted that claim was the same one who was fired from his previous job because of one post there either. Usually it takes a lot more than just one or two posts of that sort to cause a company to fire someone. Especially that type of post, sorry.
The idea that someone should get fired over a comment like his is rather drastic. We are not talking a matter of life or death here..what he posted, if he was working in my sector, say he claimed that our company had a higher than average 'happiness' rating from our clientele, which may, or may not, be really there...might be grounds for my boss to request it be taken off the blog...but to fire the guy because of a mistake like that?

By the way, if it was true that they would fire guys like him there should be a lot of marketing men out of work ....

A lot of marketing men should be out of work, anybody who doesn't think a job where lying is encouraged to sell you items under false pretences isn't healthy for the populous in general, quite simply is an idiot.
There are lots of honest developers in our tiny little market and they should be treated well, while others that spout rubbish should be treated with little respect (They have non for you)

I don't recall saying anything like that, nor do I recall making any statement about what I personally believe at all as relates to any of it... so... I'm not sure of where that came from or why.tony tony chopper wrote:so you do believe there is magic powder in analog gear that is not achievable through software?
What I did suggest that in my decades on this planet I've seen people believing in all kinds of things, because they want to, with no logical proof at all. On the scale of humans believing in things with no factual support, "music related stuff" is way down a very long list.
I also suggested that "perception" is one thing and reality is another and we often make our decisions based on both.

Just out if interest Lawrence (No malice here) why did you mention Synthmaker with an analogue sounding UI ?
I only ask because there are way way more synthedit/C++ polished turds floating around
Have you had issues with Synthmaker, I may be able to help

There's nothing wrong with Synthmaker. I use some Synthmaker plugs and I like some of them.gpunk wrote:Just out if interest Lawrence (No malice here) why did you mention Synthmaker with an analogue sounding UI ?

My point was that if you throw a pretty GUI on something, something that looks really "analog", looks like a classic analog device that Joe has never actually owned or even heard, many people will love it no matter what it sounds like. That's all.
It's often a matter of perception... not sound. People often hear what they want to hear... or what their eyes tell them they should be hearing.
Point being, I have no DSP coding experience at all personally. But I'd bet if I mocked up something from API or Great River or something and slapped the pretty graphics on a Synthmaker compressor GUI or something, people would be swearing it's the bomb and it sounds great and all that.
Not you personally, but some others. I'd only have to claim that I carefully recreated some great tone from Neve or something and some people would actually hear it, the thing that's not even there.

The GUI doesn't hurt either. Why would it be absurd to believe that a plugin with a polished GUI can ALSO be a good plugin? I'd rather think the opposite. If someone can't find the time to polish his GUI, what to think about the rest of the code? But it shouldn't even be related, and even less related to SynthMaker. My point was that if you throw a pretty GUI on something, something that looks really "analog", looks like a classic analog device that Joe has never actually owned or even heard, many people will love it no matter what it sounds like. That's all.
In any case I would compare this to a magnetic bracelet with healing powers. There is no "working" or "scam" magnetic bracelet with healing powers, it's obviously a scam by definition. A nice-looking plugin isn't necessarily a scam.
