Are you referring to something that could substitute/alternative to the VST protocol (I'm not sure this is the right term) and compete with Steinberg?VitaminD wrote:That is why you come out with your own SDK. Then it means that either developer needs to redesign just for PH or the rack has to stretch (Ace wish) to accommodate everything made out there or is something transparent and the vst do not mount inside Reason....
Using VST SDK itself could never happen in Reason for the reasons (such as yours) already explained. However, A new Propellerheads instruments/effects SDK COULD as well as introduce other features not available in VST. Then you have something else like Recycle and Rewire that other DAWs integrate and still remain relevant as a company.

But I'm more wishing than revealing. I've been wishing for this since Reason was a baby....
I still don't see why Props don't do this.. at least in a private sense.. only sharing the SDK with a select few... then others write the next great instruments and effects for you, you host them in your props-only electronic shop, and the end user gets to mix and match their rack to their tastes with generators and effects they know (good for branding).
Props also would collect on licensing and would only have to perform Quality Assurance. It is win-win-win.

I'm sorry for shouting but there it is
Absolutely. And also:
REASON WILL NEVER RECORD AUDIO OR HAVE A DONGLE.
Oh, hang on though....
And - sorry to break this - it will never have MIDI Out.
Anyway, I'm pretty certain that they are going to allow third parties to make and sell (with a license fee of course) new Rack devices. Which could actually be a pretty cool move.

What the hell are you talking about? Why would any host want to integrate or to use something so basic as Propellerhead Recycle? What host are you using? It will be almost a decade now since every other VST host have Recylce like feature which is actually expanded far beyond. I don't know i use Cubase, Ableton and FL Studio and all of them have rex support as well as automated and integrated superb sound sample slicing. You can slice anything to death and back again. Literally. For free (you are not forced to pay for that)VitaminD wrote:liquidsound wrote: However, A new Propellerheads instruments/effects SDK COULD as well as introduce other features not available in VST. I demoed Sonar and seen that feature there to.

But you make part of my point.. most/all hosts now HAVE integrated rex support (which uses the licensed REX API from props).
The same goes for Rewire support.
Why not an instrument/effects module format?
If they do this.. going one step further.. perhaps we could see a new API supporting RE plugins in Sonar or any other host (well probably not Cubase
THAT is what I'm talking about. I've been wishing for this since 2001. Reason needs it's own API for developing 3rd party modules.

Just got this in the props newsletter;
On March 20th, Propellerhead will be holding a special invite-only press conference to lift the curtain on some very exciting technology news. "But how can I see it?! Will it be streamed?!!" Well, no it won't be streamed but actually that's for your benefit.
We want you to be able to see this presentation and rather than have you suffer through buffered stream problems and the thousand other things that make streaming a not so nice way to view an event such as this, we have decided to film the event and publish it as soon as possible following the event. You can expect it just a few hours following the press conference.
Gotta say sounds interesting, surely something big on the horizon.
