Huh, glad you told us that. I own Omnisphere and didn't even know there was a sitar.

I'm really wanting Omnisphere the more I hear it, especially that I'll have Trilian as of tomorrow. It is so up there in price for though, but I know it really is a bargain with all that is included. Once I get a new computer that can properly handle it better, I think I'll try and buy it.

Yea, it's good but it's a certain product and the stamp of the sound designers (namely Eric) is all over it. It's the kind of thing it would be nice to demo for a couple weeks before buying, if that was possible. I think my favorite part of it is just the stuff brought over from Atmosphere, and some of the choir stuff is real good for layering with pads.

Kore North India resp the one in the Kontakt factory lib (they are more or less the same). These are really the best ones. Absolutely beautiful sound also in the highs where usually most libs fail. I guess they hired a real good player and did not try to do it themselves. In this instrument the player matters for the sound (I used to play sitar).

I don't own Kontakt, just the free player, and they don't sell that soundpack any longer. I'm not sure when I'll be able to afford the Komplete bundle.

it's not easy to get anything decent out of it, the more you mess with it the worse it sounds.. but superficially sitary, if you insist on using modelling synthesis. (not sure where ttk's better audio demo is, but his patches are in there)

Well my sitar search led me to consider buying knagalis in the future, I will keep playing with the demo and see how it goes. Also I used the Fluid soundfont sitar and it actually is ok, with some effects and layered with other sounds it is ok. I still hope to get Omnisphere so am thinking hard about paying for a bunch of small plugs to get a specialty sound vs. saving up every penny and getting Omnisphere instead. Right now I am siding on getting and learning a few top-end synths well vs. a plugin for every style I might consider using. But knagalis is cheap and sounds ok.

Also, as good as it is, the one in Omnisphere is an electric sitar, which sounds different from the real thing. The electric sitar is really a type of guitar.

Yeah, actually I know that, I'm not looking for a 'authentic' sitar sound actually, but something for psychedelic rock

so it fits.

in that case you should better change the title of your thread since it is a bit misleading then to tell that you search for the best sitar. I believe for your purpose the good old "Indian Ensemble"-SF2 should be sufficient. Search the net for it. It is actually quite good (but not the best sitar available) and also features some other Indian instruments.

Well, I want both actually, but I was mentioning Omnisphere specifically, that it is OK that it is electric sitar, as I want that as well.
