I am looking for a music composition app that uses music notation for a younger child (almost 7) who is taking piano lessons and very interested in learning to write his own music. I realize that this sounds like a young age, but I was hoping to find something simple that uses real music notation. He is interested in general music-making apps, but has voiced the desire for a program that lets him write real musical notation (which I confess he is still in the process of learning).
I am aware of a computer (PC and maybe Mac) program called "Music ACE" that is a learning tool that was used by a former piano teacher. This program had a very easy-to-use staff with colorful notes that could be drawn on. It was perfect for grammar school kids. I am thinking about purchasing this for my kids, but we also have an iPad for the kids (besides my personal iPad). It seems to me that there should be something similar to this available in an iPad app. I searched around and found two apps, one called Symphonix Evolution and one called Symphony Pro that are music composition programs, but they seem sort of advanced for a grammar school kid. Has anyone found something like this that is more kid-friendly?
On another level, has anyone used either of those two apps themselves? Do you have any opinion of one versus the other? I am thinking about getting one of them for myself.
Cheers and thanks!

The two big notation apps I know of on the iPad are Symphony Pro and Notion
I have both, but have not used them. I mainly got them to show people who might be interested in using their iPad for music composition. I had to remove Notion because I don't have enough room on my iPad. And I have only played around with Symphony Pro for about 5 minutes.
