We at bitr also went back to the roots. Not at all, because monster-featured-parameter-graves also have their right to apply. But we did for the new (actually old but lately heavily pimped) ManyOne Deluxe.
It depends on the individual musician's character and personality. And their demand.

I'm downloading the latest HighLife release, if building patches in it is relatively quick, I'll consider creating a library for it!
As for Shortcircuit 1, I really like it, so far all the patches I have made for it works very well (groups & multi). I see I can save as channel too, what is the use of that?
Also, it is better to save as multi over groups? For the moment, I think multi is better if I create a full library for the sampler. Is there any particuliar situation where it is better to save as groups or channel?
There's also a small annoying problem I have with Shortcircuit 1 & FL Studio (v9): When I load a project file in FL Studio with one of my multi loaded into Shorcircuit 1, Shorcircuit ask me for the sample path each time I load that project!? Why? When I reboot my laptop it seems the problem disapear for a project file saved before the computer was reboot, if I create another project file & don't reboot I have no problem. Anyone experiencing bugs like this with Shortcircuit 1?

I'll bite.Save as Channel is useful for me during the composition process, when firing Reaper songs back and forth across FTP. My tracks are grouped by channel for organization, but the sounds are bound to change. I just replace the whole channel to make sure I don't miss anything.
Save as Group works well when I'm using one channel with a large program per instance of SC1. It makes it easier to move them around later, I think.
Then there's saving w/out the samples -- that is for if you've got SC set to save samples in song directory, and just need the mapping. Great for some cases during composition, but pretty much useless for creating soundbanks and presets.
For making presets, probably group+samples is best, because it's easy to slot in an existing channel.
Channel + samples might be good for very large multilayered and xfaded pianos or whatnot. I might prefer that to group... not certain though.
The short way of saying all this is that it's down to preference / situation, but the options have all come in handy for me at one time or another.
