Or possibly the users that are enticed by the idea will get Reason Essentials and spend all their extra money picking and choosing the ported VSTs. Props will no doubt be OK with this. It's new users for the platform and they get 30% of the store sales.wrote:It is also possible that the Reason built in synth and effects are going to be used less and less due to the flood
People often complain about the sound of Reason synths being "thin" or "boring" when compared to VSTs. The problem is most of these users often compare reason synth sounds with no FX to synth presets in the VST world that are often drenched in FX to sell the product. Comparing combinator sounds with FX applied to synths is a much better approximation. And the new devices in Reason 6 really help the sounds compete. Thor is quite good when paired with the Echo and Pulverizer.
Or maybe upgrades of Reason 7.0 and onwards can then really focus on making the ReRack SDK better and the core sequencer/UI even better? They're a relatively small team and allocating some members to making devices means fewer others for fixes/enhancements to the core DAW.liquidsound wrote:The difference from another DAW then would be a mediocre sequencer but with a Cable/Modularity advantage.
I really see this announcement as win-win for any Reason user, new or old.
