Nostalgia also plays a big role. It's sometimes hard to stay objective.
Whatever Nintendo does, Super Mario World will always stay the best Mario game for me, even if there is nothing wrong with the new Mario games.

couldn't say it better myself.
I was almost getting offended everyone was calling my music crap before they even gave it try! Though, granted, chances are you probably wouldn't like it, but it's not fair to judge so critically without a small taste first.

Anyways, I entirely agree that Nostalgia plays such a huge role in the "favorites game" (which might be better than Super Mario, mind you)
I don't like a lot of early 80's music because I don't have any memories to attach to it, just the music itself, and all I hear is usually very cheesy processing on most of the song (save a few bands I like, like The Chameleons)
And it would be a lie for me to say that I didn't TRY to like these bands, but I couldn't.

Anyways, I grew up at the end of the bits and in the with polygons, so I am pretty certain all my N64 games will be fun and always will be. And thanks to Nintendo shitting the same game out every chance they get, games like Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time won't become Nostalic memories for me, but actually still be the popular games they were back then...except now they come in 3D (and cause your eyes to explode) and have better texture resolutions, and all that stuff.
(too bad I lost my original Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask cartridges....I'm kind of sad about that.)

Obviously you've never played Super Mario Bros. 3 :hihi:
Oh shit... I had three paragraphs written about old video games (I have a huge collection of vintage consoles and games) before I realized it really had nothing to do with the conversation.
I guess the phrase "don't get me started" applies here.

Mario 3 is a close second. It was awesome and I'm still playing it every now and then :hihi:

I tend to go way off topic without even noticing it sometimes :hihi:

osiris wrote:Someone else pointed out punk rock, so I'd have to include that as well. I'll never forget hearing The Sex Pistols for the first time. Anyone who could scream into a mike, had a guitarist who knew at least 3 chords and had a drummer not stoned enough to keep a beat had a band. (Exemptions granted to The Ramones, The Go-Go's, and The B-52's)
Except that doesn't describe the Sex Pistols at all. Musically they're quite a tight band, at least on Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols...

Also, if you count there are more than 3 chords. It's a fun thing to say but it's really an inaccurate cliche.

Well, I think actually that the amount of good music being produced hasn't increased, but the overall amount of music being produced has increased so yeah, I'd agree that there is probably a lot more crappy music out now. But we do have tools like Pandora and Spotify to help better weed out the crap.

I should carify my response there. It would be hypocritcal of me to say literally every song written today sucks, or every song written in today's new genre sucks.
I am just saying all the radio music you hear today...99% of it sucks.

Pandora has been my tool to keep my head held high that it isn't the end of the world for music. and Yes, music creation is easier available, i.e. I am writing music. A no-named...nobody from Austin, TX
