My thoughts? Considering the absolute LACK OF TALENT ON ANY LEVEL these guys have, I think maybe STFU might be appropriate. I've made fun of nikkelback, I don't own any of their records either, but at least they know how to play their instruments.

Around that time there were a ton of great hip hop albums released - It Takes a Nation of Millions, Critical Beatdown, Paid in Full, 3 Feet High and Rising, Paul's Boutique.

Same generation, but Ive also seen a lot of excellent stuff come from the artists in those bands (Bob Mould, Tanya Donnelly, Kirstin Hersch, David Pajo etc) which have continued up to the present.

Bob Mould, really? I jest, it's just once I would have taken a bullet for the guys music but now... maybe half dozen tracks over the last decade I *really* like...

Have to admit to foolishly not hearing a thing by Donnelly since Belly... Kristin Hersh has never let me down though.

Meanwhile, my guitar-band-y inclinations have also headed off towards some of the the more psychedelic/ambient/droney perimeters, from Blut Aus Nord to Earth to Flying Saucer Attack.

Earth 2 was a massive album for me at the time (seriously think I layed the foundations for my tinnitus trying to replicate its tones) and the recent stuff is intriguing. Also appreciating Stars of the Lid more than ever so drifting in a similar direction... Will check out the other acts too, thanks.

Simply being able to play an instrument doesn't equate to making good music in any way, so I don't give any value to that statement at all whenever I hear it.

If that's all it takes to put someone ahead of the pack then Brian Eno's music is complete shit by his own admission.

Actually...I use to play live instruments, but I had to get rid of them. But that's a story no one cares about. It's been about 3 years since I last played a live instrument.

I did like that "live at sturgis" though because it's pretty clear they are good players. Yeah, I like rock, I like loud mesaboogies and PRS's.
