I'm going by their demo tracks, which sound terrible to me. You can't argue that point. I wouldn't bother wasting my time downloading and installing their demo based on their example tracks.
But you said 'Everything about this synth reads "fail" to me.' Do you really mean 'Everything'? Every thing? 100%? Not a single thing? Or are you just lazy about telling us what exactly you don't like?

In MY opinion... nobody should ever decide if to test a FX/Instrument based on just the example tracks. Tastes differ so of course there's differences to what the developer likes to show and what the listener likes. I thought that was common sense. :P

Judging a plugin based on demo tracks alone is like judging a car because the commercial had it driving within inches of cliffs and around mountains with ease. Why test drive the thing? I'm sure it will be great! They said so!

So, let me get this straight. You think it's common sense to download and demo a synth when the companies' example tracks sound like crap. Sorry, I don't have that kind of time unless you're Urs Heckman. I want to be impressed by a demo track and I don't really care about the genre of music you use, or the types of patches. It just has to sound good. Other additive synths have set a really high bar so to get my attention you've got to be at least as good and hopefully have something really new to offer.

Well, I guess you have to define "good". I haven't heard the demo tracks, but maybe they sound good to somebody? I imagine they sound good to Rob, who has a track record of great taste in some people's eyes.

So it's hard to say. I'm not really an electronic music kind of guy, so I surely won't be the judge.

I have to say I never listen to demo tracks at all.
I always downlaod the demo and have a go.

that is quicker than listening to demotracks. At least to me.

Hate to say it but zerocrossing is 100% right. Those demos have killed any desire of mine to try out this synth. Seriously the NI video is straight pro. I have to say this seems to be common among papens demo tracks. They all sound cheap and cheerful. Not a good thing for a synth. I also have to say I have tried/ demoed a couple papen synths and the sound was better than I expected. Predator was nice and subboombaass was exactly that, boomin sub bass. Soooooo Im not quite a superstar... yet  , but I would be more than happy to put my money where my mouth is and donate my services for a demo track. I'm sure we can put this synth in a better light, Let me know Rob!!

Thanks mate, errr im happy you posted that cause i can hear clicks in the audio demo.. wonder why that is? Sounds perfect before i uploaded to Soundcloud.
I really like the synth and the sounds it can do. The XY feature was fun to use with interesting results. Great for Atmos/Pad sounds too.

I was getting clicks on some presets also. Assumed it was a CPU issue.

Rob is surely open to have User's demotracks on his page.
I know that, because I did one for Predator ;)

I'll just leave this here......

:hihi:

As per usual drag to new window or right click 'view image' for full size.

It's only rough and the knobs aren't great, the small ones need a different design but I thought I'd share. I just tried to tidy things up a little.

Thoughts?

edit: please don't quote this post lol

Is it possible to store own Timbres and Waves?

I'm an additive fan but the interface is a put off - not just the aesthetics, although I don't like the whopping great big blade image, but more in terms of ergonomics. For a synth that ostensibly is designed for performance, with the XY etc, what on Earth possessed them to add 9 controls to the "harmolator" when pretty much every controller under the sun works to an 8 knob or control per page design, it means if you want hands on control you have to constantly switch between pages, 1 with just a single knob.
