And in Fakt that i use the iPad "3" since 5 Days in the same way as my old iPad2, I can't figure out an overheating! I tested it by playing Games, Make Musik with Animoog+MidiBridge+iMS20 and finally by mirroring some Movies to my apple TV booth in the same way. There are absolutely no differences between the old and new iPad. Booth are colder then the temperature in my Hands.
And in Fakt that i use the iPad "3" since 5 Days in the same way as my old iPad2, I can't figure out an overheating! Actually the article confirms why it runs hotter (the Retina display requires 2.5X the power of the previous version). Much more of a concern to me is the WiFi problems reported here, here, and here, and many other places.
Good Wifi is critical to some of the things I need the iPad for so I'm actually shopping for a used iPad 2 now. Seems like a better fit for my needs.

Yes you are right, but think about the 3 million devices and the smal number of broken devices. On other companies nothing were reportet, aktually all shot gen apple because of theyr huge succes with this devices.
But I can tell you that the iPad2 is a god alternative to the "new" iPad. We have now 2 devices, ipad2 +iPad3 and optical it's only the retina display what make the new better. But also it is difficult nd not tho thinn... The ipad2 with full warranty can you get for lower price at the revurbe store on the apple store site (left site -> called refurb store)

+1 for iPad 2. Get it cheaper and it will run all the audio app the same as the New iPad (which may be a little faster cpu side but is geared for graphics this time around). Plus you can then get a $100 iTunes card and buy all the cool audio apps.

My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

well not my first selection, but the kids here overwhelmingly vote on the humpback whale at the start and the bird cheeps a bit later, myself i can already imagine writing a song with the keys/piano song around 4.40ish

Thanks for the opportunity and your fine work. Kind of ironic that I ended up saving on the patches by winning them and now find myself throwing all this money at Apple for an iPad 2...
