Meeblip anyone?

...and how to do so...

Tempted by the micro version (cheap, not restricted by control layout etc.) but struggling to find a decent demo of it.

Anyone know of any that don't just sound like a deluxe APC, y'know, kind of musical? ;)

cheers.

Cheers, just noticed his latest video with two meeblips.

Certainly a lot of fun for the price, just not sure I really need one...

I'm kind of into the same boat now.
I'm not sure I want one now.
The micro seems cool but then I dunno it's hard to get stuff down here in South America so I'd have to air-design what I want and order the extra bells.
The DIY pre-assembled kit was the champion for me, but then since the project is apparently a couple good Canadian folks doing it old style.. then it sucks because I can't just order from Amazon but have to be waiting for their shady shipping times and whatnot.

The Shruthi-1 (whatever) was the contender in my book but then it's even worst having it shipped all the way from France?

And the rockit I think shares the same situation with the MeeBlip.

I was thinking of just ordering the components "manually" and building the complete DIY kit but then I need a case and my PCB skills aren't that good.

So all and all, I think I desisted for now. :(

Actually, there's only one Canadian involved - me. Peter Kirn (who also runs createdigitalmusic) is based in Berlin, Germany. We have shipped about 800 synths since releasing the first Meeblip in late 2010.

As far as "doing it old style" goes, we've switched our design to suface mount parts and the first shipment of 200 fully assembled boards will arrive next week. They'll start shipping within a couple of days of arrival (basically, as soon as I can test and box them). Our "shady" order page *cough* cheerfully states that new orders will ship the week of April 16th. :)

Amazon should have inventory in early May, but that may change because there will be a review of the Meeblip SE in the May 2012 issue of Keyboard Magazine. (and, yeah, I've had a chance to read it. Much as I'd really like to tell you more, I'm not allowed to...!)

So is the end of the micro or will that continue 'old style'? My eyes don't do surface mount. :)

We'll announce the Micro+ in the near future (will be shipping from Amazon in North America). It's surface mount and pre-assembled, with 16 switch inputs instead of 8 on the original.

:D
Well I love CDM, I follow it since I saw an old article about a DIY pedal-board switch thingy years ago.

Whe I said old style, I meant more in the distribution sense of it, like maybe shipping it from your home and stuff. The surface mount sounds rather cool.

Ok but then tell me, dear friend, are those 200 boards ALL taken?
Can I still order one of them say NOW and get it shipped next week?

Look, I really need you to steal this dirty money out of my hands, but then I use a courier to ship stuff back to my country... and since I'm making an order this week I cannot wait longer, as the courier will wait for me only a little while before consolidating boxes and sending them my way.

That's the only way I can get nice stuff overseas without selling a kidney for shipping.

I won't lie, the MeeBlip has me dreaming, as I'm a huge gear whore, but then if the shady order page *cough* cheerfully states a new date every week then I kinda get into a random black hole of uncertainty.

So please answer promptly Canadian earthling :)

PD: Sorry GaryG, for kinda stealing a bit your post but I couldn't resist

No worries, it's all relevant to the Meeblip so go right ahead. :)

whyterabbyt: Chris Randall bought the original and bought the SE as well. He recently commented on the analog industries blog, "a MeeBlip of any stripe is now, and has been since its initial release, the best deal in new hardware synth gear, period, for what you get versus cost."

kpsychedelic: We have about 50 left from the current batch, but that may change quickly. The May issue of Keyboard is just starting to hit mailboxes and they gave it a Key Buy Award, which just blew us away. Francis Preve wrote, "The MeeBlip is capable of binary grime that dubstep and IDM producers will absolutely love." If you want one, give me a shout and we can figure out the best way to get it to you quickly.

Hey All,

On a n00b necro binge:

Supposedly the new micro, surface mount parts pre-assembled, will be programmable via USB. IMHO, this pushes the board in the direction of the Arduino, significantly dropping the barriers to entry for coders. I believe it's releasing very soon and I am very excited.

Thanks

(First forum post.)

I have the SE model and really like it.. Might very well get that new micro. As long as I don't have to solder anything (that put me off the original micro).

Never thought of how much fun USB-programming a MeeBlip would be, but now that someone mentioned it that is my most wanted feature.
