Being coldly logical about it, it is just a word. But a word with such massively negative connotations to most people that I'm kind of amazed anyone would even consider using it in their marketing lit. Which makes me think WR is right and it's being used innocently/mistakenly as a term to signify 'evil' (the use of 'asylum' suggests this too).

I'd defend anyone to use terms like this in their art (eels 'cancer for the cure', Galas 'Plague Mass' etc) but have to question the wisdom of using it in an ad, going to offend/upset way too many people for, what? Sales?

Whatever we may each think individually, the fact that it may cause offence makes it ill-considered wording to include in a publicity blurb - and I can see that some people may find "asylum friendly" derogatory to those suffering from mental illness as well.

Without wanting to shift the focus too far from the OP - what do people think about the business model here? It's a new one on me, but I've been away from music for years.

It's everyone's right to use the words they want to use, and it's everyone else's right to be offended by them. Not a big fan of stilted, PC language - I'd rather people mean what they say and say what they mean. Best to keep in mind, though:

Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words can REALLY hurt you.

It might be worthwhile for the OP to send an email to 8dio to explain his point of view.

I don't think 8dio was trying to be hurtful or cause offense, so I say give them an opportunity to make things right, apologize, etc.

It's worth a shot.

If I'm entirely honest, I'm far more offended by the language in the first post, than that in the 'advert'.

In a multicultural/belief society, everyone will be offended by something, and there's no real answer to who is right or wrong.

Personally, if the English language (my native tongue) is used within the correct context, I don't have a problem with it. I'm not so keen on slang or vulgarity as it generally demonstrates a lack of vocabulary (obligatory "haters' gonna hate"), but if the language used is within context of the intention, I'll accept it, even if it offends me.

I'm unlikely to buy the product, as it doesn't really fit my desires.

I am also unlikely to listen to these chaps, not because of the name(s) (which seem to be trying hard), but because of the style:

Equally, I don't generally listen to Rap *because* of the language, yet I'm sure many people listen to it because of the 'hard' aspect.

It doesn't bother me. It doesn't do anything to convince me to buy their product but it doesn't bother me.

I discovered, even before I was diagnosed with lymphoma, that it takes a lot of energy to get upset about stuff. I find it's much more therapeutic (for me) to just laugh it off.

I know that I don't speak for everyone who has struggled or is struggling with cancer. I can only speak for myself.

Though I've suffered from crippling mental health issues, I don't get upset when someone advertizes a "crazy deal". Again, I just don't feel like it's worth the energy to get upset about it.

Cordelia, please don't take this personally. Fighting cancer is serious shit and requires a strong will. Just because I don't share your perspective on this issue, doesn't mean I don't admire the strength it requires to keep putting up that fight.

Back in Tonehammer days they put out anti-adds regularly, often using a vocabulary not so political correct but rather hilarious and funny to read. So this is probably an unfortunate attempt to get some attention back after Tonehammer spilt up into 8Dio and whateverthatothercompaniesnameis. 8Dio has become more mainstreamish lately, releasing the usual high qualitiy cinematic stuff almost everybody else is releasing so this campaign could be an attempt to get back to the raw, anarchic roots sort of.
Crowdsourcing projects seem to be the newest hype, Sonicouture does it, 8Dio does it - who's next?

people who dont care are just idiots, sorry but this is about health, if he didnt mean it the healthway then he should have taken another word which couldnt be misunderstood. this is no taste at all, you shouldnt use such words and meanings for advertising or make yourself funny about it.

with all the south park humor and teenagers i think there is a lot less respect in our world now......

they definitely wanted attention, sure they can now say it wasnt meant like that, this is important for me and now their reputation sank very low for me. tasteless and im feeling for people offended directly with this.

This may come as news to some, but (most of the time) we all have the capability to pick and choose what offends us or makes us angry. I don't know about you, but in any given day, I probably encounter a dozen or more things that I could really get angry about if I chose to. But every time we get angry, we're putting wear & tear on our bodies and emotions, and basically shortening our lifespans, so I try to be selective about the things that anger me. You know, conserve energy, etc. Just saying.

yes you have your legit points and yes it's true but this is from a serious sample library studio and they use this for their ads, it's different than south park...

Like the erudite Stephen Fry's short of a f'ckin' word or two? He's an absolute arse bastard of the vernacular and can probably swear you under the table in Latin and Greek as well!!

Come on, chaps - lighten up. There are more important things to get worked up over.

So the ad wasn't (maybe) in the best possible taste. So f'cking what? Don't like it? Ignore it - don't give it MORE publicity if you find it so offensive!

The relevance is lost on me. What does this have to do with South Park, or how serious the sample library studio is? How does that relate to what I said?

Did you see the episode where Cartman contracts HIV, then gives Kyle HIV for laughing at him. They try to fly to Magic Johnson's house (they think he has a cure for AIDS) but the airlines won't let them fly for free just because they are HIV positive (claiming that its a "retro virus", har-har). So they pretend that they have cancer and the airline lets them fly for free.

That was a pretty funny episode.

Wow! You remember the episode really well

One of my favorite episodes. The one where the internet is broken is still the best though

I don't really know what to think about this. I can definitely understand how people can be offended by it though.
I guess the best thing to do is to try to take it with humor (like most things in life).
