Q: Are the anlog modeled filters of Saurus available in any other software synthesizer?

A: No, since we use a new and completely different approach than competing companies (like U-he) did. Our filters need low CPU, support self-osc, asymetric non-linearity (a k2 characteristic which is similar to the MS-20 filter) and have a very high precision.

Q: Does it need much CPU?

A: No. On our I7 test system we were able to run 40 instances with different patches at the same time without getting audio dropouts. Since we know that good performance is important for our cutomers we have taken a lot of effort in keeping the CPU as los possible without loosing sound quality.

I think this is another argument. The polemic was about the competitors and CPU usage :)

BTW any discussion in this direction (regardless what the official FAQ really means) it's totally useless from my point of view. While working on betatesting/sound design I never seen any comment or comparison about Diva or other synths (that's why I think there is no intention to point the finger).

Obiouvsly it's fine that users want to make a comparison, but I think that any polemic must be left behind.

A: No. Unlike competing products we have taken a lot of effort to keep the CPU as low as possible without lowering the sound quality.

Note that that post originally read:

(btw, no indication in the original post to show that it has been edited :? )
Maybe has been edited to try to avoid all this useless chatting? :hihi:

Countdown to the inevitable Diva vs Saurus thread... ;)

I have bunch of cheap guitar pedals that sound way better than this.
They are more noisy but the sound has character. Using the filter drive actually weakens the sound, which is not what I expect from analog overdrive.
Nice overdrive is what I really prefer for fat lead sounds.
The filter Drive in Saurus is not too bad but my favorite filter drives are the ones included in the Moog Slim Phatty (where it is called "filter overload") and the Waldorf Blofeld as hardware synths and the one in Waldorf Largo. I have just done a new preset in Largo which only works with using a certain filter drive curve and it sounds totally different without the drive.
My favorite external Drive plugin is the Schwa Oligarc Drive from the Schwa Oligarc bundle.

No one think the modulation matrix is a bit claustrophobic? I would love some rightclicking on a controller to assign it to a modulation source..
For ten minutes (well, seven, as i had to find some kind of init preset) i had a fun time figuring the synth out. Then it died. I will try it again when initialize works and the demo lasts longer. No point demoing a synth if you get pissed off :bang:

So come on! Chug some pills and let the paranoia go! :hyper:

I hope no one is thinking I am anti-Saurus or that I am hoping it doesn't succeeds....I have always had a great relationship with Tone2, and own licenses for Gladiator 2, ElectraX and a few of their fx....
I do wish Saurus and Tone2 well, was just stating my opinion...
It does really deliver low cpu, but it sounds nothing like Diva, which may be either a good or bad thing, and probably intentional as well....It just wasn't what I was expecting based on my own interpretation of how it was described...... who knows, maybe in a few days/weeks I may love it for what it is, not what I hoped it would be, and buy it.

Yep, just spotted it and edited my posts.

Still, that "unlike competing products" statement is a hostage to fortune and absolutely invites comparisons with "competing products", whichever they are. ;)

The only reason the 'useless chatter' continues is because you are unable to admit you were wrong and that Tone2 did reference Diva... which of course is absurdly silly cause there is nothing wrong or controversial in Tone2 making the comparison... but hey, if you want to keep it going by continuing to claim there was no Diva reference, I'll be happy to keep replying as well
