Hi, I've been playing with the demo of Rapid Composer (full) but I think that RapidComposerLE is the best version for me. I have some questions before I buy.

1) I lay out a melody using a generator, I change something and want to undo it. So I stop playback and then press ctrl-z. The rhythm of the generator goes back to what it was previously, but the pitches are incorrect. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug? Being able to undo is pretty important to me.

2) In the full version of RapidComposerLE, does it come with more ready-made phrases, or is it just the ones shown in the demo?

3) How do I convert a generated phrase into a normal phrase that I can then edit manually if I just want to change the placement of one note, for instance?

4) When selecting phrases in the middle window, is there a way to have the phrase automatically play a preview, without having to click each phrase then click the 'preview' button?

5) Is there any documentation on how the progression editor works? Can you generate progressions randomly based on rules, using 'generators' in the same way the phrase generators work?

Thank you for your help!

Hi!
Thank you for your questions.

1) You found a bug with the undo. There was a problem with the phrase generator parameters not being restored properly. I fixed this today. The update will be uploaded in a few days, but if it is urgent, I can send you the update right now.

2) No, it does not come with more ready made phrases. The phrases are meant as samples only. I expect everyone will create his own phrases.

3) Good question. When you switch to Note Editing mode, and modify a note in a generated phrase, it will be automatically converted into a normal phrase. Or if you select "Render Phrase With Variations" from the phrase context menu, that also converts it to a normal phrase.

4) Actually it plays a preview, but only when it replaces another phrase in the composition. Clicking a phrase in the middle window replaces all selected phrases in the composition. This is useful if you want to replace several phrases with one click. When no phrases selected, there is no preview. This is a good feature request.

5) This is actually something I am interested in, and wanted to do for some time. Making chord graphs, which let you generate a chord progression.
At the moment the progression editor helps you to manually build chord progressions. Click on the small [+] sign at the bottom to insert a chord, or select a chord to replace it with another one.

Thanks,
Attila

Thank you, you answered all my questions perfectly - I will be buying RapidComposerLE this weekend!

Regarding randomly generating chord progressions, an idea may be to have a simple scripting system, so you could write something like:

Chord1 = C
Chord2 = Random(Dm, F, G, Am)
If Chord2 = F or G
Chord3 = Dm or Am
Else
Chord3 = F or G
EndIf
Chord4 = C or F or G

Thanks again for your help, and I'll look forward to playing with RC this weekend!
