Oooh that's even closer. If one is DIVA and one is Saurus, I'd have to guess the first one is DIVA, the second Saurus. But very close none the less.himalaya wrote:Thanks for the complment.Echoes in the Attic wrote:Firstly, well done, you are an excellent sound designer!himalaya wrote:Sure.hakey wrote:
How about replicating some Diva basses? In particular, any of the following:

Here's that HS bass Nine preset. You hear both synths.

Can't do any more at the moment as the kids are screaming and want to go to the park.
The difference is that the DIVA clip (the second one i could tell immediately), has that extra body that you don't often find in soft synths. The DIVA clip sounds sounds like hardware, the Saurus clip sounds like a very good VA soft synth.
What do you think of the following clip? It's in mono. Your (and anyone else's) honest opinion:

Many thanks about all the comments made about my demos.
I only have Saurus a few days but i already feel that it could be one of my favorite synths.
As the last demo was already my 4th about Saurus and i'm sure there will be more in the future i created a Soundcloud set now:
http://soundcloud.com/ingoweidner/sets/saurus-demos/
BTW like i already mentioned in my post above the oscillator section of Saurus is very flexible, especially as you you morph the waveform of ANY available waveform by using the PW knob (details in the manual). This is far from an average VA synth IMO.
Like you could hear in my PPG like demo Saurus could also do some nice digital style sounds. With the waveform morphs you could do some wavetable sweep like sounds.

+1 for the PPG sounds!
Saurus seems pretty nice and really flexible and the cpu efficiency is great! It has that really polished sheen that I've come to expect from Tone2 synths and in that regard it reminds me of my Virus more than my Oberheim or my Waldorf. Haven't put it up against the Evolver yet, but imo I would not call this exactly "Analog" as much as a very very good VA. Whereas Diva crosses the line to where I would call it analog. That's how I would describe the differences in the comparison demos that were posted. They are on two different sides of the line - albeit very close to that line.
So, overall, FWIW I would say a job well done!
I have a question on the keyboard graphic... is that supposed to be animated the way keyboards normally are in vst's? In the demo the wheels are animated but the keyboard seems to be static... unless you click on it. Is it animated in the full version? Granted, that's really neither here nor there as far as the sound of the synth is concerned! Yet... if it IS just static... then what's the point of even having it there?

I agree with Dalor. I have heard nothing from Saurus that comes close to your Synth Squad stuff and it cannot begin to match the creamy richness of Diva. Saurus sounds like lo-fi digital not a modern analog emulation.himalaya wrote:Try this. How does this one sound?dalor wrote:Haven't demo'd myself yet but judging purely from the demo sounds, I can't hear nothing analog whatsoever. The filters are a dead giveaway.
It doesn't mean it's a bad synth overall, just wrongly labelled. Just my 2c.

I've listened to every user example posted in this thread since its release and most have some harshness and artifacting. I liked Architeathis' 'supersaw' clip. Ingonator's 'ppg' clip was okay... both decidedly digital sounds.
I have not heard a single thing that made me go wow... Soundwise, Saurus seems like a digital softsynth from 5 or more years ago. But then I really like high sound quality and don't mind at all the recent high cpu offerings that push the sound quality to new levels. I think there is no going back for me!

In my PPG style preset (see demo "Saurus goes PPG" a few pages back or the Soundcloud set on this page) i did not use any FM or Ringmod...PietW. wrote:PPG style? More FM style.LeVzi wrote:Loving the PPG style sounds from Saurus
It just about choosing the proper OSC waveform and PW knob setting (+ "Tone" setting) plus filter programming and some modulation including PW modulation by a LFO.
I have mentioned this several times already but you could use the PW knob for ANY waveform which leads to different sounds and with the "Tone" knob you could change it even further. All of that before the sound even enters the filter.
In my first and second demo you could hear Saurus is also very good for analog sounds and the last one shows it could also do Hypersaw/supersaw like sounds.pdxindy wrote:[ I liked Architeathis' 'supersaw' clip. Ingonator's 'ppg' clip was okay... both decidedly digital sounds.

I know that other synths like e.g DUNE could do similar stuff but somehow i love the combination of the sound, features and the GUI of Saurus.
For me it's no question about e.g. Saurus vs Diva as i own and use both synths. If i had to choose just 3 softsynths Saurus would have no chance maybe. Those 3 could currently be Synthmaster 2.5, Waldorf PPG Wave 3.V and Diva maybe. As i'm not limited this way Saurus will find it's own place.

Does that 'steep res' clip also display those artifatcs? I'm asking as I want to see what people regard as artifacts and harshness.pdxindy wrote:

How does one get the filter to self-oscillate? I was curious about that "new" method... but can't seem to get pure filter self oscillation without oscillator input.

Sorry but the sound can come from it all. You should know what "a PPG sound" is.

I don't have the demo installed anymore since it was way to annoying but maybe you can choose a pulsewave and set the pulse width to 0% or 100% to turn off the oscs sound?Urs wrote:How does one get the filter to self-oscillate?
