Try and keep it OT ppl ffs.
No need to drag this into a flaming war.
Tone2 have brought another great synth to the table, that offers something unique, yes unique, as you can make sounds in Saurus unique to Saurus.
Now all be it, this synth won't be to everyones tastes, that's fine, music would be pretty boring if everyone used 1 synth only. I think it's good that there is so much variety, and that they all strive to do something different.
The bitching and back biting , regardless of where it comes from, is now irrelavent, enjoy Saurus if you get it, or enjoy whatever you prefer, but lets just get on with it and move off the whole a is better than b cos c said so and d looks more like a saw than e cos f was modelled after g where h wasn't. (I was gonna go on, but I smell curry cooking)

BTW i found that the Diva waveform (single cycle) sounded nice in Synthmaster. I'll maybe try to use that for some presets of the Synthmaster bank i'm working on for a while now.

Strangely, the worst of the off-topic bitching here is being done by the people complaining about off-topic bitching.LeVzi wrote:The bitching and back biting , regardless of where it comes from, is now irrelavent,

i bought Synthmaster while it was still at version 1 (some huge changes since then...) and it's one of my favorite synths.

Hehe, yes my opinion is the same.MaxSynths wrote:@zvenx & hakey: ok ok you are right guys!
It's not a matter of like it or not. In 70 pages the attempts to put down Saurus in every way has been ridiculous and unfair. Just my opinion (can I express my opinion?)
(end of the polemic on my side, I feel I'm only continuing to feed the...)
I just knew that tone2 synth gonna be criticized on KvR for whatever reason. it's like "kvr community" (whatever it is) don't like tone2.
Kvr community loves two synths mainly:
- Diva
- Alchemy
If some newbie asks about synth for:
a) pads
the answer is: diva, alchemy
b) leads
the answer is: diva, alchemy
c) chiptune
the answer is: diva, alchemy
d) deadmau 5 pluck:
the answer is: alchemy
e) avicii piano sound:
the answer is: diva, alchemy
f) sine wave
the answer is: diva (yea, cpu wise
g) (almost forgot) skrillex dubstepzor bass
the answer is: alchemy and diva
Oh, I forgot. Third one is Zebra
Sometimes it's really funny
Meffy should made a sticky topic named: "how to make a sound". And then answer: use Diva, Alchemy, Zebra. Use it for everything.
ps. I hope that some people have deep sense of humour but quite often it's really like this on kvr. whatever the question is - there are some people who have universal answer: use Diva / Alchemy / Zebra.

Sylenth sounds good with low cpu because the developer was smart about choosing which controls to put in. He did not add features that take a lot of cpu to sound good. Because of that, it is hard to make a bad sound in Sylenth. It is really easy to make a bad sound in Saurus cause it has features that demand cpu cycles to sound good but doesn't feed them the necessary juice.himalaya wrote: I'm also NOT saying that Saurus is the perfect analog emulation. In fact each analog modeled soft synth I used properly has certain deficiencies in some areas (and Saurus in so exception). But taken as a whole, with careful editing, real sounding analog sounds can be obtained from these latest modeled VA's.
Sure, if you stay away from those areas, Saurus sounds good... but, for example, it makes no attempt to do a credible feedback. The feedback sounds so bad I think they would be better off taking it out. The drive mostly gets muddy and the Osc FM/AM (labeled noise) is quite harsh in most cases.
Synth Squad, Diva, Synthix make credible attempts to model analog behavior across their range of controls. Of course they all have certain deficiencies but in no way does Saurus belong in that category.

Anyway, unfortunately Tone2 seem to have to an extent invited such comparisons by their unfortunate choice of a name for this synth, and their also unfortunate decision to directly refer to u-he synths in their advertising. It probably would have been wiser and endeared more people to them if they had chosen to be less adversarial in their marketing.

This is not true at all. No offence to anyone but I have demoed Zebra and I don't like it one bit. I like Diva but I don't own it yet. On the contrary I have ElectraX with all expansions and Gladiator2. I also have Warmverb but the Uhbik's are not found on my pc because I don't need them. Sorry but I really don't fit into the category you just made. I've said it before I say it again: I like tone2, I really do.D N A wrote:Hehe, yes my opinion is the same.MaxSynths wrote:@zvenx & hakey: ok ok you are right guys!

ElectraX is one of the few vsti's that have inspired me to do my own soundbank for it. I just happen to think that it's way better product than Saurus.
Just because someone is disappointed in Saurus does not mean they hate Tone2.
