Hello I'm kinda new at this but I've been at it for about a year now and i was just looking around for a synth i could get for $50. I make dance and techno trace music but a lot of the time when i dont make music i feel is dance or techno i just call it my genre. So it has to be a soft synth and im not anything near a sound engineer so if it could have a lot of presets that would be great. Also i would appreciate if i didn't get any answers like "well first you need a host" because when i first started i took the time to learn a lot of stuff about electronic music production.

I'd say wait a little longer and save up for a high quality soft synth like Z3ta or Sylenth, both of which have tons of downloadable presets available. You'll be more satisfied in the long run.

Keep an eye on the KVR market place. You might be able to pick up a second hand license for something nice at $50.

There is a LE version of Dune in the latest issue of the Computer Music Magazine afaik. Definitely worth a look!

Not only that, in any issue of CM magazine you also get Zebra CM, z3ta+ CM and many others. I'm not sure if you can upgrade from z3ta+ CM (that is the full z3ta+ 1.5) to z3ta+ 2 for the reduced upgrade price, $49. But even if you can't this alone is amazing value, and you can load in it all the free banks in the Kvr data base and others you will find around there.

The CM magazine also comes with a lot more synth and effects, you can't miss it.

Just use Synth1. It's free, has about 10,000 free presets and is just as capable as many commercial softsynths.

Then you can keep saving for Dune/Sylenth/z3ta+2 etc.

On the CM disk you'll might want to install the free PolyKB II Player version.

Same audio engine than its big brother, and in the player you can still control some parameters, and eventually upadte to the full version of the PolyKB II player for a ridiculous price, where you can control around 17 critical parameters in real time (ie filters, EVs aso ) and wich is populated by a largest number of presets (250 ), and compatible with a lot of soundbanks add ons ( more than 1000 instruments )

( So its defintely not just "a player", even if you dont have access to the hundreds of parameters and features of the full version, wich is 149€ )

Then you have the Xils3 LE, a fully modular system with zero-delay-feedback filter for just 39$ !!!

The Xils 3 LE might be a little too complicated to operate for your needs though, so I'll check the PolyKB first

Affordable synths is not always equivalent to poor quality sound, as stated above, it can just be equivalent to "access to less parameters AND zero compromise sound quality "

This is an amazing freebie. Two limitations: No built in FX, and only 32 bit.

Pair it with last month's amazing DiversionCM Multi FX plug and you've got a great sounding track.

Put an ad at marketplace for synthmaster. If you're willing to pay a bit more like 70 us you will get it. It's a good all around synth. The preset is plenty since it support online sharing.

Yeah... you might find something nice in the marketplace, but to be honest you'll probably do fine with the freebees people mentioned until you can save $100 or so for a commercial synth.

Wusikstation is going for $50 at the moment. Imageline have $50 deals on their synths once in a while, otherwise try and pick up Synthmaster secondhand for a bit more.

You're getting a lot of different answers so I'll add to the lot.

I would recommend getting a sencond-hand licence of Vember Audio Surge (should be about $60 in the market place).
It's one the gems I always grab first.

Agreed! With Wusikstation, which is actually a sampler with synthesis capabilities, you can now load single-cycle waveforms and treat it as a synthesizer. But the real beauty (aside from it's price), is that it is the only synth/sampler that can save in SFZ format. It comes with 15+ gigs of sounds, has a groove drum sampler, and is really inexpensive!
