So I'll ask again, how is the included stuff, instruments, presets, effects? Do you use them or do you find it necessary to buy 3rd part effects for much of it?

Here's a couple of mine from the latest update

Macros
Nukleus Solo

Then there are things like the user exchange, content library which has some really useable sounds imo. Control link and the way you can navigate plugins via the plugin wrapper is great. The little automation panel in the top left is great.

I've noticed the similarities to Logic from watching videos and if that's the inspiration behind S1s design i can understand why people favour Logic. Most of it's functions are implemented in a logical way.

Saying that i need to sign up for the 5 day pass cause there's a lot i still a lot i don't fully grasp and they've just added a bunch of new features.

Sorry i don't know if a developer's forum will give me more 'honest' feedback either. And my demo timed out before I explored it adequately.
I'll be frank, the fanboism of any product is a risk that anyone takes to get answers, that said I found the forum for Studio One is by far the best place for you to get answers to these questions.

those that warn of the DAW war potential of your OP have got their finger on it after the past weeks of debate, you will not get what your looking for here and you will end up defending your thread again.

I myself find Studio One work's for what I do, fast composition and mixing. I too have tried Reaper and can say it's hands down the best DAW out there if you work with it. And for me that's the kicker "work with it", I'm a lazy but pragmatic producer, if it ain't up to my flow of working than I move on to greener pastures which in my case leads to Studio One.

Go to their forum and you'll get an honest answer to your questions, there are a lot of good people with problems and that have a beef there too so the honest factor is high in my humble opinion.

It also helps if that is the work flow your looking for, you learn to enjoy it as I have.

That's it.

But I LIKE KVR :) anyhow I've been posting at Presonus too so no worries.

Anyhow I found this helpful for answering how to route midi around Studio One, it was one of the questions I had not having the demo, and it nicely demos Catanya for anyone not familiar:

I am guessing there would be no issue using another plugin to route midi in>W2 Harmonizer>Catanya>a VSTi? Or having one plugin drive two others?

And can anyone answer my question regarding Trilian and its arp?

And I'm not a fanboy, I'll jump ship as soon as something better comes around, I just want a DAW that plays like an instrument, not a science project :) I love Reaper for many things and will miss some things a lot, but I also need to simplify and so I'm giving another product a shot. Fanboy'ism is a terrible disease, I want to take my blinders off, not buy another pair.

Name calling is against KVR rules, and I didn't start whatever war is going on over there, YOU and others did. I stopped posting because of the partisan mood. I don't think this has to be any sort of argument, just looking for advice which I would hope is possible on KVR.
name calling? oh come on now, i hope you are joking. since when is "punk" offensive - especially when it was all in fun! :?

You mean like Ableton "Live"?

Uh oh I hope I don't confuse more. :D

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean :) Let me guess though, I jumped ship from Live to Reaper (like the dirty rat I am), I sold Live only so I'd could buy something else or I would have kept it, I still have a Lite license but for some reason it keeps crashing on me, I think it has something to do with my VST plugin folder settings but I love Live a lot, it is a great app. I don't have to hate it to move on. I'd give Reaper more time but per the Reaper forums it doesn't sound like midi is a huge priority, I'd rather not hold my breath hoping they implement features that are important to me, and it didn't cost so much so I don't have a huge investment that I need to get value out of. I won't sell it and I'll still use it for some things probably.

I just got back into the whole music app thing recently so I am still figuring out what my needs are and figuring stuff out. Reaper was surprisingly easy for me to pick up but I'm finding maybe something different would be better for me personally.

I'm staying out of this one. :hihi:

Oops... :bang: ... damn, I didn't did I?

Look, I like S1 as much as the next guy but I agree, multiple threads about it (or any other) will draw the expected reaction and look a lot like "f-word" praise.

I'd say just ask your questions there, on their forum, since that's where most of the actual users are, and just wait for the answers. Or just (maybe?) try to grab the demo again with a different email addy and reg name (I can't be the only person who ever actually thought of trying that?) or just politely ask for an extension of your demo?

Yeah maybe I should just stop posting at KVR because it seems that everything turns into an argument around here anyhow.

You got to have a thicker skin here and I hate to say be more on top of it here. They will catch you here pretty quick. Don't worry have a sense of humour and roll with the punches and I'd say you'll get along just fine.

as far as Live what I meant was a Playable DAW which it is and it's loved for that purpose.

Nah. KVR is pretty cool. But like most net forums, you often can't praise anything too much without bringing out some people who truly despise it. :)

And of course somebody despises every single one of them. :hihi: It's not a KVR thing, it's mostly just the net. Go over to Gearslutz and start a "Reaper (or Cubase or Samp or SAW) is Great! I love it!" thread to discuss with people who may feel similarly and watch what happens. :)

The most amusing part for me (mmv) is people who get involved in long heated debates about things they don't own, never owned, and don't even want to own or use, and maybe demoed for 30 minutes 5 years ago. I saw a lot of that with Cubase because the SX3 crack was everywhere.

Gotcha!

I never used Live maybe for what it was designed for, more like a regular DAW just used the arranger view to demo how certain things would sound together, put together tiny arrangements then drag to the linear view. I hope when I get a new computer to get some use out of the lite version I have, it probably is enough of Live for me anyhow.

S1 is fantastic for me. Coming from Live and Reason. Tried Reaper for a month: not for me but damn powerful. I'll keep the license because I may change my mind or needs and this is why we all have more than one Daw I suspect.
To me it's all a matter of workflow and MuLab together with S1 fulfill my needs (at the moment) and a Daw war is an imbecile way of transforming your gear into a religion.
Coming back to S1, I like the one screen does it all, efficient and effective browser, multi-channel Pianoroll (a killer for me), D&D and so much more. I'm still very new to it, but I'm so productive with these two daws (MuLab - S1) that it's just a blessing.
