I say they don't release BWS beta until June.

About a month later Live 9 is announced.

I agree that the wigs will be out doing beta early summer and hope to ahve it in times for the christmas rush.

Live 9 i think might be farther out than people think. I have a feeling that they are really doing something special. Not just catching up with bitwig things.

If bitwig is not out until next year that reflects pretty poorly on them from a marketing/business perspective.

Word of mouth can turn against you at some point, if you let to much time go by.

Here's to both bitwig and live 9 being rock solid

I think Ableton have just been waiting for the 3rd bits to get updates before they set it free. ie. zplane, Cycling74

Incidentally the 8.3 update uses more processor now and even shows usage with a blank template. On my i7 system. Enabling multiprocessor support pushes this up even higher.

Id be ready to dump Ableton for a similar app thats more stable than Live, which shits its pants at least once an hour on my system.

I'm on the fence of dumping my Ableton license for the linux aspect alone...but i'm gonna feel like a fool if it turns out bitwig is vapourware or ableton 9.

abit of topic im really looking forward to seeing the new performance mode that will be in FL studio

it looks like bitwigs are taking forever,so im looking forward to the beta of FL gets released by the end of this week

I'm really interested in Bitwig, but Ableton has been my axe for a long time, It'd take a lot to make me leave; and even then I doubt I'd ever migrate fully from it.

The biggest problem I have with these guys is that they really seem to be aiming at elbowing in on the Ableton Live market. I'd be more confident if they were trying to enter a niche gap on the DAW market, but they're not.

I don't really have a lot of confidence in this company's longevity.

I don't mind that they are taking ableton head on. I also don't care that traktor is taking some of ableton's workflow ideas and implementing them in traktor 2.5.

If bitiwg can take ableton and make it better then it will be a success. If not they will fail. Still good for the user, because it raises the bar for ableton

Problem is, that's not really the business model that works, and mostly leads to failure. Finding a niche market is generally more likely to see a company grow as there's a market gap.

I'd like to see them succeed, but I think they have a huge uphill journey ahead of them.

I can see what your saying, but if it were to take all the things you love about live and ten added all the features that folks have been asking for, then i would venture to guess that they would do well enough.

But again they are going to have to convince live users to switch and that ain't goin be easy. I also doubt that there is a large group of folks that would like bitwig and not have already purchased live.

But who knows, back to music

What if at the end of the day, we find out that Bitwig is actually Ableton (in a wig disguise) ?

imho. the whole Bitwig thing, including their name is kind of a mystery, and makes me question their real identity, first... They are ex-Ableton employees, developing a DAW that looks like what Live 9 should look like, and then the beta-test period, while Ableton 9 beta is nowhere in sight !

But .... I wonder what would motivate Ableton to go for such a stunt, and I can't find a single good reason, so I'm still unsure what's with this Bitwig/Ableton thing.

Whatever it is, I hope either Live 9 or Bitwig Studio will be officially released in the near future. Which depends on what 'future' means these days. (Days, Weeks, Months, Years, Decades, ...etc ?

I like Ableton a lot, but when I think of humor I don't think of them. It would be hard for me to believe they would go along with this hoax. I think Bitwig might be the employees who had the closest thing that passed for a sense of humor, but underestimated how hard it would be to bring a stable program to market.
