would you please translate these chants for me?braj wrote:Hey, I WAS a monk at one time!
with my luck the chants are directions on how to fold a map which would have been useful BEFORE GPS
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I still like Acid Pro 7, works fine on my laptop screen and Does The Job(tm). Reaper on my laptop is horribly inflexible in resizing some panels (ugh). Haven't tried Sonar on this machine yet, I have the demo but haven't installed it (maybe tonight or tomorrow).
My needs are simple: VST/VSTi, loops, MIDI sequencing, video/film scoring. No audio recording at all. Not a big deal.

Exactly. This is why i tried it and then deleted it (and it had some bugs i didn't like at the time, too). If i had started my DAW experiences on GarageBand (yes, i called it a DAW), i would never have tolerated Sonar. But i grew with Cakewalk from way way back. There are things about it i like, but i'm coming to hate it and wish it were more elegant in its visual behaviors. When i tried Reaper, i was reminded that the little things matter and that usability is key. Sonar has just enough usability to get by (note, i've not even tried X1, but it's clear Cakewalk has NOT recoded the views from scratch as they all still look very heavily descended from Win3.x and i expect they still flicker and stutter and jump huge blocks at a time instead of smoothly scrolling). Reaper reminds me of the "GUI design" mentality of the open source world where the only thing that's understood is that it's good to have more than 16 colors and to use gradients. There seems to be very little in the way of human-interface design on a cognitive level (just a lot of copying and skinning).metamorphosis wrote:It's not that it's ugly,
it's that the underlying construction of the interface leaves a lot to be desired.
IE. Not eyecandy,
workflow.
In some respects it's good, in many it's terrible, IMO.
i'm not bashing Reaper. I think it's awesome for what it is and for those who enjoy it. i just saw this thread's title, read some posts, and felt like chiming in. If it ever got totally redesigned from the ground-up (re-designed, not refactored code), i'd try it again. Till then, i think i might have to get my projects out of Sonar and into Logic... i am SO hating on Windows these days.

NO. WAY. orion 8.5 looks freaking awesome! that said, nicks reaper themes are just ok. i don't know why nick cant make a theme of that caliber for reaper. rado is pretty good, but his orion work pwns. im sure he worked very hard on rado but its simple not as good as the orion 8.5 skin.Teksonik wrote:Why?Arglebargle wrote:Especially Orion 8.5.liquidsound wrote:Even Orion 8.5?hibidy wrote:Most daws are ugly to me.

I really like the Rado theme
Where is this Orion skin you speak of? Is it the default one? I didn't know it was even skinable.

Didn't read the thread, but gonna blatantly assume the content:
I bet it was!
Hahaha, is that the gist of it?Reaper doesn't have an ugly GUI because it can be skinned.
I bet it was!

Actually I think the bits I don't like about Reaper's UI are actually Window's fault, as it uses some of your Window's theme for it's GUI. But then you can manually adjust those as well (get rid of the white, it looks so bad next to a dark theme like Rado.
