Mattiiiii wrote:Did you check the re-sale policy? (Because as you wrote, it's A LOT of money for a synth that may be gone forever if you cannot resell it in case you don't like it. Just asking because I read some complaints about this here at KVR, and there are indeed not much sales of this synth in the market place.)
Yeah, I'm buying it with the intention of NOT selling it. It kept me away from omni for a long time.

Too much to cover.........

-lovely examples!
-Not getting rid of kontakt/don't care about workstation
-have trilian
-have an i7/8gb ram
-have komplete
(sub group) like fm 8, massive, can't get my head around absynth too well, hate reaktor (fiddly/buggy on my system) and of course use GR and kontakt allot.
-thanks osiris! (but I've already ordered it at a similar price from MF, it's usa and I have the MF card so I don't have to pay for 100% of it straight off.
-Moog expansion? Forgot about that. Give me a couple of months to learn this first

hmmm... Spectrasonics are just the best IMO. Buying one of their products may seem expensive but really it's kind of an investment. I remember reading a thread on here a while back and someone describing omni as a gift that keeps on giving, and it really rang true for me. The presets are, on the whole, awesome and the number of them is staggering. Every update is a wonderful gift for users and always includes great new features and a stack of gorgeous new sounds. I think their business model is rock solid, they seem to have such a grounded approach and what comes across in both their instruments and their company ethic (to me anyway) is passion and integrity. You may say that such things don't matter and you just want some cool sounds, well, you get plenty of those too !! I never (not even for a moment) regretted any spectrasonics purchase. Go for it hibidy!!

Buy it, then throw away all your other synth plugins.

Then buy some good gear, some matches and a hammer, throw away omnisphere and start to create your own sound . :hihi:

I'd wait for Omnisphere's successor: Megasphere, with 10X the content at only double the price

Post

Hehe. That seems to be the tenor around here--I'm going to wait for the next version (I know you were saying that tongue-in-cheek).

It's kind of a meme on KVR.

But if nobody buys v1, there often won't be a v2.

Post

I dunno. I didn't get version one but did when it was 1.5........does that count?

Post

That's because you were one of the few hold-outs an everyone else bought it. Listen to any movie soundtrack created after 1.0 came out for proof ;)

Yes, buy it. And learn synthesis. You'll really open up a whole new palette of sounds. So many sounds that it'll take you an eternity to get through and you'll never really make music. :help:

But in all seriousness, buy it and sit down with it for a year. Don't plan on selling it though.

that's good advice :D

Or just use the great vids Spectrasonics provide.

I'll add one more slightly negative opinion just to balance all the gushing. Omnisphere is something you add after you've got all your bread 'n butter sounds covered.

I, too, believe it is overhyped. For all its thousands of factory presets, it is basically a one-trick pony. But it's better at that one trick than anything else. Aside from the great pads, it has some useable voice samples (I've gotten a lot of mileage out of the Japanese Children's Choir). But if you want, say, bowed guitars, Cinematic Guitars is much better. If you want lush strings, almost any top-tier string library does better. If you want classic Oberheim or Roland patches, they're in there too but you probably have those covered already with other synths. And don't expect any recognizable conventional instruments, they're not in there. Justifying the price comes down to how badly you want nice creamy pads, because that's Omnisphere's only great trick.

Most of the presets are designed to sound good naked, which makes for a great demo. Watching Jordan Rudess' demo convinced me that I needed Omnisphere. But trying to squeeze them into a mix can be quite challenging. They have to be thinned via EQ, plus I usually end up shortening the release times.
