If you really want to be sure and test what the heck is going on, go over to Christian Budde's blog and grab a copy of VST Plugin Analyser.
Then take a dive into my KVRmarks to see how to measure EQ's.
Important on top of the frequency response is the harmonic distortion which gives you an indication of the "pleasant sound" you're talking about. Pulse-Tec is by far one of the best Pultec EQ clones out there.
Again:
The Portico is a 5 band full parametric EQ based with custom Input/Output transformer design. The Pultec EQ is a tube push/pull type EQ. Additionally, you get the "midrange upgrade EQ module" MEQ-5 with the Pulse-Tec. Not many plugin developers did this (actually only Waves as seperate plugin, and UAD with their Pultec Pro).
For this price, you definitely get a lot for your bucks.

The price becomes $24.65 when you enter the coupon code "april15off" on checkout.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:http://www.jrrshop.com/catalog/nomad-fa ... -9299.html
someone on another thread posted the price at $24.50...i think that's after 2 discounts, one general one for it being the month of april, and another as a member of kvr...i'll see if uncle E will confirm and give us the final price (have already confirmed the offer lasts till end of april, hence this thread)

that's not necessary...i don't really care what's going on before it reaches my earsCompyfox wrote:If you really want to be sure and test what the heck is going on, go over to Christian Budde's blog and grab a copy of VST Plugin Analyser.
i like the 6144/portico thing...i really like the highs....i think i will start comparing this to other eq's at my disposal to see if i already have comparable sweetness (thinking maybe 'mixcontrol')....but now i've tested them both on other source material it's the pulse-tek i want...i'm looking for 'character', and that's something i kinda associate with 'mids'...as you have said, the inclusion of the separate mid section unit makes a huge difference...this thing just roarsCompyfox wrote:Again:

now just have to work out whether i can spare the sheckels

which one takes up the most cpu?
which one takes up the most ram?
to me, the DDMF looks like a track EQ, the Nomad one looks like a program EQ
correct me if im wrong anybody.
i would take a look at both companies as a whole, their customer service, how often they update, judge them how you like. give money to the developer you like the most because youre not just buying a plugin, you're supporting a cause in general.
im a little baffled why you would either-or two totally different types of plugins is all.

don't know...not important, as i'm after sound/character enhancement not processor efficiencyoverhishead wrote:which one takes up the most cpu?
see aboveoverhishead wrote:which one takes up the most ram?
i'm not one for limitations such as this.....so far time limits have meant i've only tried this thing on the master channel, but i see absolutely no reason why i wouldn't use it on a bus or any single track that it gives what i'm afteroverhishead wrote:to me, the DDMF looks like a track EQ, the Nomad one looks like a program EQ

actually i AM buying a plugin....while it is important to support companies, especially one's that offer good customer service, i'm not about to buy something i want less because i like the company more...as you have mentioned in the point below, these plugs are much more different to each other than i first anticipated. why would i choose the one that doesn't do what i want just so that i get better customer service ??overhishead wrote:i would take a look at both companies as a whole, their customer service, how often they update, judge them how you like. give money to the developer you like the most because youre not just buying a plugin, you're supporting a cause in general.
actually, i've made it very clear throughout this thread that this is a question of money and limited opportunity....there might eventually turn out to be a good argument for owning both..what is pushing me to make a quick decision is that for the next week the nomad is about 80% cheaper....overhishead wrote:im a little baffled why you would either-or two totally different types of plugins is all.
i'm a little baffled as to why, when you state these plugs are so different, you choose to make comparisons based on the first 3 points/questions...only if they are extremely similar is it worth considering which is more ram, or processor, efficient, or which company you'd prefer to give your money to
