Is a pretty good way to get you started very quick.
I would for certain but I have the groove3 "all pass" already.

@LFL: Yeah, I'm going to be all over those first it seems.

NO. We are NOT going to have another kvrian throwing away perfectly good plugin suites into the trash!! :x

I, too, believe it is overhyped. For all its thousands of factory presets, it is basically a one-trick pony. But it's better at that one trick than anything else. Aside from the great pads, it has some useable voice samples (I've gotten a lot of mileage out of the Japanese Children's Choir). But if you want, say, bowed guitars, Cinematic Guitars is much better. If you want lush strings, almost any top-tier string library does better. If you want classic Oberheim or Roland patches, they're in there too but you probably have those covered already with other synths. And don't expect any recognizable conventional instruments, they're not in there. Justifying the price comes down to how badly you want nice creamy pads, because that's Omnisphere's only great trick.

Most of the presets are designed to sound good naked, which makes for a great demo. Watching Jordan Rudess' demo convinced me that I needed Omnisphere. But trying to squeeze them into a mix can be quite challenging. They have to be thinned via EQ, plus I usually end up shortening the release times.

Wow you are just so wrong about Omni only being good at pads.

I'm pretty handy with an eq :hihi:

Oh wait........that's the other thread.........

I hope that people that are saying the negative stuff know they are being listened to as well.

I'm falling sucker to the idea of it being a "wow" product. If it doesn't workout that way, then screw me.

I get inspired by 6 string guitars everyday, I'd think that omni would have to have SOMETHING inspiring in it to me :)

Oh it inspires baby...it inspires.

Understood.

Here are a few multis you might like to play around with.

P.S. dont bother about the soundcloud links, I deleted that stuff. The links to the multis still work but you need the Moog library for many! Really worth every red cent!!!

It's kind of a meme on KVR.

But if nobody buys v1, there often won't be a v2.
From what I've been lead to believe: It's as solid a staple as any in the business, like a lot of EP's stuff. Assuming true, then developement of (at least) short-term future versions/IP adds (if deemed necessary) of/for Omnisphere are already paid for.

IMO: If you do any alt sound design/developement for a living, Omnisphere is a no-brainer

I certainly can't argue with that logic.

Hi Hib! I can't believe you haven't already got Omni! :-o Maybe your GAS isn't as bad as mine

I love it. I did almost an entire 21-minute piece with it, and I found exactly the sounds I was hearing in my head, while I didn't find those sounds elsewhere. And those sounds are exquisite. Omni is great for soundscapes.

I don't agree with some that Omnisphere has achieved the "only synth you need" status, but I don't think any synth has. It's VA is very good but not as good in sound quality or flexibility as the U-He synths (and I have sound file comparisons to demonstrate this). And you can't import samples like the dedicated samplers such as Alchemy or Kontakt.

But it might be the best all-around synth, because it is very flexible, very user-friendly, and the sound library and presets are world-class and very large.

Here's the tune that's almost entirely Omnisphere. Notice how gorgeous the sounds are, and how perfectly they seem to "fit the bill." Omni sounds here include tons of wind-like sounds, gorgeous bells, choirs, dulcimers, and nylon guitar (2 different dulcimers and nylon guitar are not pads!).

@Gonga: :love: :love: that piece!!

Omni here works just fine here. I've loaded up to something like 15 here and had no issues with it bogging my computer down at all. I'm still finding things in this that surprise me... :)

Thanks trimph1, yeah, that piece has 21 tracks: 8 audio tracks and 13 midi tracks, and 12 of those 13 midi tracks are Omnisphere (the other is Alicia's Keys). I had no problems with my i7 965.

I've bought and sold Omni twice. Definitely a quality instrument, it's just not for me.
I've wanted to like all of Spectrasonics offerings but they simply don't inspire me to use them.

@hibidy: Considering how different our opinions are most of the time, you may consider that an endorsement.

Post

haha, I'm thinking about cancelling the order

Seriously though, I'm having total buyers remorse. Usually not the case with me.

I'm sure once I get my computer issues squared away (who the flack knows what I did there  ) I'll be stoked again.
