2006? Was it that long ago!?

Thinking back, I seem to remember I wrote to him after the DC because I saw so much potential in Balthor Grand, and he added the suggestions I made to him, and even adjusted the samples. I think he may have given this version to me alone. I remember asking him if he wanted me to "introduce" this version to the KVR crowd, but I never heard from him again (like I say, he seemed pretty bitter about some ruckus here at KVR) - so I don't know what to think now. I found a video on YouTube featuring Balthor Grand and it really sucked (the piano tone and the guy's playing (no offense fella!) - must be the sound others think of with this plugin. Oh well...

BTW - this version has ADSR, Level, Size, Damp, Width, Gate, Reverb Mix, Velocity Level, MIDI Ch Select, Octave, Note, and Fine Tuning.

Yes, just before he left for parts unknown (many at KVR were ragging on him about something) he made a version with complete and adjustable velocity that works very well. Not sure what you mean about "infinite sustain" but the version I use has a fully functional ADSR, along with many other nice controls, and there is no weird infinite sustain bug that I've ever experienced. Come to think of it I may be one of the few to have this particular version as the dev was pretty bummed by the response to his VSTi after the DC. But it IS a very fine (sample based) freeware grand piano plug-in, and sounds best of the bunch, for what I do.

I think people were "ragging" on him because his piano was just someone else's soundfont wrapped in a GUI with added limitations like no velociy response.
If I remember right, it was the Florestan piano.

That may be, I wasn't involved in the original thread or discussion, but I did think it was about something more personal - like a comment that got blown out of proportion, but I don't remember. If his piano IS from a "borrowed" soundfont, that is an unfortuante situation! Might explain his reluctance in releasing the final version, etc.

I'll try to compare the two, just to explore this idea further. Thanks!

I also like the Mda Piano which has a very nice dance piano. Or you can check out this page for some other pianos: http://www.realmusicmaker.com/rmm-sfz/keys-piano/

Not sure if mentioned so far but EMU Proteus VX (free edition of Proteus 2000) has descent dance pianos to my taste.

the VST version of this has some serious latency-lag, and the settings are not accessible (everything is greyed-out), which renders this plug practically useless. the standalone, however, is a different story. i am able to access the latency settings. i have never seen anyone else mention this problem, so i wonder if it's just me

There's now an (1GB) SF2 version of the GIGA set Maestro Grand (from a Yamaha CF3 concert piano).
