Any reason not to get this as a backup drive?

I'm running a little thin and considering I'm getting omni AND both "roots" sdx's I thought maybe I'd add one.

I have two Seagate Barracuda drives in my desktop(total of 2.25TB) and I have had zero issues. They are fast drives, and have been very reliable. Of course, every drive is different, but I swear by Seagate drives in general as I have three external Seagate drives as well.

I've always had good luck with seagate myself. HD's don't seem to be as easy to find though as they once were. Fry's used to be THE place. They got nothin'.

To me, for those specs, it seems like a fair price.

Yeah, they really can be hit and miss. But the Barracuda drives are pretty good, really. Like I said, my studio computer, both system and samples drive, are both Barracuda drives and I couldn't ask for them to be any better. I'm sure other brands are great as well, but the speed and size for money is excellent with these drives.

Yes, because for $25 more, you can get double the space. Seagate ST2000DM001 are $119 right now and 2TB, 64 megs cache, 7200 RPM, and I'm getting 136MB/sec transfer rates between two, they are pretty darn fast....

Oops, wasn't even looking much at the price or comparing. Just mainly talking about the line of hard drives itself.

It was 99 on sale so I figure between all of my stuff I'm set/set.

Er, why doesn't best buy allow a way to check your cart before having to give up a shit load of info? ridiculous. Anyways, saved 10 bucks........better than nothing.

Are you picking it up at the store or do you have to get it shipped in order to get the price?

I've been hesitant on buying new drives because of the over inflated prices but looks like prices are starting to come back down. I just wish it was more feasible to do a RAID 1 for storage but almost everyone trashes on the idea for various reasons. I just want to build in redundancy as I keep hearing the the MTBF on drives larger than 1TB are far lower than manufacturers are claiming. Just looking at the reviews on sites like newegg or amazon make you wonder what is up when (on many models) you can see 30% and higher numbers of people claiming early failure or DOAs.

I just picked up an SSD for my OS partition and now I'm looking for an internal storage drive and an external back up drive to match it.[/u]

It's kinda noisy but I have the case sides off (this case SUCKS!). I haven't had the time to do any real transferring so certainly not able to speak of speed. But I got it at the roseville best buy while they were having the memorial day sale so not sure what the price will be from here on out. I just went in a bought it. 2 TB 64mb cache is pretty decent for 99 bones.

Keep it in perspective. Failed equipment is going to want to make someone write a review. Working equipment, not so much...

Devon, I agree. I do try to keep that in mind. I'm starting to come to the realization that I am "damned if I do, damned if I don't."

I will just have to continue to make sure that I am on top of my back ups.

I'm going to call the 'Howe bout Arden' Best Buy and see if they still have the deal. I just might roll through there on my lunch break if they do. Then I'll just have to find an external drive with the same capacity and my system back up solution will be taken care of.
