Has anybody seen the Groove3 tutorial yet?

I loved that vid. Ultimately, I decided against iris but it's well done.

Oh well I just bought it - it's my birthday anyway :) Bought the whole bundle, just downloading it now. In some respects it's not as advanced as Poseidon, in others it's ahead, but the main point is it is in development, something I'm not so sure about with Poseidon which Virsyn seem to have neglected.

Here is a more mysterious Iris demo with 4 new patches:

Things I'd like to see in a future version:

Waterfall display mode
Drawing, editing and filtering directly onto the spectral image as well as just selecting areas - in Cube 2 you can even draw on a comb filter
Multi point envelopes
More innovative filters
Image import
Spectral morphing and the ability to impose the spectral analysis of one sound onto another
Ability to change relative positions of samples in the "All" Window (so that they are in sequential relationships instead of just layers)

And time stretch, please!

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

ok, folks, you have 7 days left to convince me I need this. with words, not audio samples. I'm still on the fence, even at $149. Note: I have been spoiled by Omnisphere.

If Audio doesn't convince you it might be tempting for you to know, that Iris also washes the dishes, irons shirts, gives neck massages and cooks great Thai Food! And she reduces one's tax load too...

EDIT: Ohh, I forgot - the biggest plus compared to Omnisphere might be the fact that you can load your own samples if that is of any interest to you :)

wise guy

I guess I should be more specific...
what does this do that you can't do with say what a lot of us already have, e.g.:

Kontakt and a series of EQs/Filters* set to Band Pass? *Either 3rd party or DAW native EQs/Filters.

I ended up using the demo more as a sampler... loop points, crossfades, and reverse... one shot... reminds me of my Akai S-01/S900 sampler days!

Carving out spectral bands or small spectral dots with the various tools can't be compared to filtering with a Bandpass really as it goes so much deeper into the original Audio material. And you can draw transitions between spectral areas like a painter, nothing you could do with Kontakt or any EQ I know of. If you miss the missing features than don't buy it, if you don't I think you could be inspired by it.

I don't think it's really comparable to Omnisphere, since Omnisphere is basically a ROMpler + subtractive synth engine (with some effects, basic FM, etc). Whereas Iris is strictly spectral synthesis where you manipulate/layer samples including your own. The fact you can load any samples you want into Iris makes it more flexible than Omnisphere in that regard. They don't strike me as having much overlap.

A closer comparison would be Camel Audio's Alchemy which also features spectral synthesis, as well as a host of other audio manipulation options and can also load custom samples.

I wonder how Iris is going to compete with Alchemy actually, once the early-adopter deal ends (since they are both $250). Seems like Alchemy does more.

Can anyone comment on the Iris expansion packs (Glass & Wood)? Worth getting?
