CSR vs. Valhalla Room?

Yeah, I know. I have so stayed out of IK flame threads. I asked about the CSR origins and got so some smartass answers that sent me on my quest. I could go on and have gone on, so I'll leave it at that for now. I like their products that I have and sort of appreciate the the circusy we're havin' a big sale, group buy, etc. all the time thing. I have a little over $300 in TRD, Black and White, CSR, Amplitube Live, Miroslav CE, 11 Xpansion Tanks, plus most of their free stuff. I also have several redundant licenses now and I guess I'll have over $50 in jam points after the CSR registration. That's easily over a grand at their lowest ridiculous retail prices, or way more at retail all singles prices. I see it as maybe worth what I have in it. Oops, I went on.samsam wrote:Are we talking about buying blood diamonds here or a music software company?

It is completely and utterly puzzled for me to understand why the heck people want to know origins of something when it comes to audio processing plugin? Like it will change how does it sound once when you know that it is emulating Lexicon or Eventide or whatever. It will not.
You try demo, if it sound good to you and your own sensibilites and your music idea then you buy it. Can it be more simple then that?
Maybe i am too simple to understand...or stupid..or both..

Anything that IK does apparently gets some here into a kind of bloodhound mood.
I think it is amazing that one can do anything nowadays with what is out there. Just demo whatever and go nuts with it.

I am still torn here. Had the CRS hall from a group buy ages ago and only just tried the full version. Love the room so much, not got anything like it at all. As i already had the hall and I have plate verb covered I thought i try demo of Valhalla Room. Was disappointed as all the hype seemed positive. Maybe it works better for different material. I produce electronic stuff and CRS room gives the sound I been trying to achieve for years. Unfortunately I cant even afford to buy at mo even with this discount.

Valhalla Room doesn't have an EQ section. This is one of THE biggest differences to any of the other reverb plugins. If you look at some/most of the presets in CSR (or even the hardware Lexicon PCM8x series) you'll see they use the EQ/filters quite heavily. This makes it more immediate and easier to fit in the mix.
If you simply insert ValhallaRoom and are NOT using an EQ after it, you are doing it wrong.
There is no way in hell you will get it to fit in the mix unless you EQ it according to what the track needs. Especially because it can be so dense and full, it really must be equalized. It's very common to end up with massive buildup in the bass on longer reverbs and even shorter rooms and ambiences.
EQ it. Simple as that.
Then of course in the end it comes down to taste. ValhallaRoom has it's own distinct sound and if you don't like that sound to begin with, then it'll be a problem (though the different algorithms sound and react vastly different so you basically have a plugin with numerous different reverb modules in it).
Cheers!

It's human nature to wonder about the origins of things.
If you're okay with IK's deceptive advertising and paid internet trolls then fine, but know that not everyone is.
I have to get back to work on my robot piercing lance now.

re the EQ thing:
Everytime I insert Valhalla i get it very fast sitting in the mix without touching the eq.
Although I own CSR for about 4 years now it never stayed in a project as I could not make it fit anywhere. And why on earth still nowadays people buy an reverb, where they have to start from scratch when they want to try a different algorithm is beyond me...

They are here to sell, not support. One even said recently that they are not support.

There are different levels of support. If you are experiencing a host-specific issue that is going to require several one-on-one correspondences with a software expert, then KVR or the official IK User Forum are not the places for that. So we refer people to tech support, away from the noise of a public forum. It's also a courtesy to all the other forum members who maybe don't want their discussion thread hijacked by someone getting tech support for their trouble automating the SampleMoog BENDER knob in Tracktion...antithesist wrote:They are here to sell, not support. We do however provide a lot of general user support, and our body of work is evidence of that. But what we actually do in our jobs with IK differs for each of us, and most of it is behind the scenes. You only see a small part of it. We engage on KVR primarily for our own personal enjoyment, because we are all musicians first. We work with IK software every day, and have since long before any of us joined the company. We work for IK precisely because we believe in the software and know it well. But the open hostility directed towards us and anyone else operating commercially in the free market from certain KVR members does diminish the enjoyment we get from participating here, which might just be a contributing factor to why you don't see some of us around nearly as much as you used to.
But let's get back on topic with this thread.
The CSR sale is ending in 2 days and won't be extended.
So if you're thinking about expanding your reverb palette with CSR, now is the time to get it.
CSR is a highly acclaimed reverb, and was developed with the same reverb designer who created the SSL X-Verb and ReLab LX480. Sure Lexicon offers a similar reverb suite, and you get the Lexicon name on the GUI, but it costs quite a bit more than $49.99. But this is an extraordinary deal for people who don't have thousands to spend on a reverb plugin, but want to sound like they did.
