Hi,

I like Bassnectar and other euphoric techno dub-steppy type artists. Aphex twin with a little alcohol, lol!

Anyway, I downloaded reaper and want to start learning. Where do I start?

Thank you!!
N.

for dubstep bass - download the demo of NI Massive and then google "dubstep massive wobble bass".. that will get you waking up the neighbors in no time at all.. ;)

Best way to start with reaper is here:

There is so much knowledge out there, especially on forums like this one. In addition to using good sites like Sound on Sound (which even has a REAPER section on the front page of the site), forums, like here at KVR and on the official REAPER forums are great for finding tutorials and asking questions that you can't find answers for.

I recommend finding a good beginner course, like the video course posted by manducator, or maybe a well rated book on REAPER, and getting the basics down. Then once you have the basics, just start making the music that's in your head. If you have trouble with something, look it up. The REAPER manual is pretty darn good.

And if you want to make mainstream sounding dubstep, get Massive.

Before/while you get stuck into Reaper also try the demo of FL Studio - easy to pick up and play and ideal for any kind of 4/4 techno (in my humble opinion).

(no disrepect of Reaper implied or intended).

As someone who is fairly new to recording, I found the series "5 Minutes to a Better Mix" on YouTube to be very helpful. It breaks down concepts and techniques into small segments and you can put the tips to good use immediately. While it doesn't focus on Reaper, the techniques are applicable to virtually any DAW, including Reaper.
I need more practice, not more gear.

I find YouTube a great source for tutorials, and also various forums!

Reaper is just a tool, and while it's important to learn the technology, you need to know the fundamentals of dance music as well. I recommend the book "Dance Music Manual" by Rick Snoman.

It goes through all the basics of EQ, mixing, effects chains, and introduces you to a lot of the terminology and theory behind music and specific genres.

Strange to see how those new posters never respond or say thank you. He/she did his first and only post on may 5th.

And sometimes people start wondering why newbies got ignored.

Haha, didn't notice the thread was that old. OP was overwhelmed, perhaps?
