i think you can write to RP support and ask. i did it a few times and they are very helpful.Arglebargle wrote:I'm pretty sure once you sell Albino once secondhand it becomes NFR. I'd love to be proven wrong, though.bronxsound wrote:^why is that? A3 was resellable as far as i remember

so, er, wot happens when it is discontinued? does it cease
to be? does it become free? or is it just no longer available
and 2nd hand licenses start exchanging for ever-rizing prices?
everything has to end eventually, eg: development of a software.
so it is now assumed to be complete and to have reached its
logical zenith. the dev isn't interested in taking that project
further; so: it is completed, on to the next one.
good for the dev, i say: getting 'closure' must be a good thing.

Rob what happens if one already owns Predator?Rob Papen wrote:I advice people to purchase Predator instead. It has the sound I seek (phat and punchy) and it has 27 filter types...loads of high quality fx and loads of contemporary presets (over 3000)... the quick browser, preset manager.

It will not load the factory Albino3 presetsttoz wrote:so, the new synth will have some sort of code to block just the rp fxp's from loading into it?Rob Papen wrote:Hi guys,
Linplug will provide a new replacement synth and unlike linplug stated, I will not load Albino3 presets.
I will never allow my preset to be worked in this new product.
If they make a new synth, it should be new and fresh of course.
Plenty sound designers around to fill this new product.
Linplug stated to me that they maintain the product for 2 years, so that it keeps on working on newer OS and so on.
So there is still plenty time to switch to this new Linplug synth or to cross grade to Predator.
Best,
Rob
how is that even possible?
Please make a synth that will stay working for ever then that can load albino 3 presets.
But Albino3 will remain working for a longer period. Until the end of 2014 anyhow and if there are still users arround, I will discuss with LinPlug if we can expand this time, make a small upgrade.

Well, many already own Predator of course...
Cross-grade to another RP product is no problem. We had this request before.

Peter from the other thread:
Sorry guys, I have some pretty sad news. I talked with Rob and thats what we will do:
We will NOT make any successor of Albino, that is, we will NOT make any synth that loads Albino 3 presets. We will however, to support the customers as good as we can, continue support and updates for 2 more years from now on (the date of officially announcement).
And we will allow a cross-grade to any of our synth with a certain discount we not yet fixed.

Sure, I fully agree that for Pads Albino is great. Altough I love myself also the newer filter types (new pads in the Predator classic bank).ttoz wrote:I don't.Rob Papen wrote:

I have both, always will have both,
and albino is still superior for "in the mix" pads,
in fact it is still the worlds best algorithmic synth for those mellow pads.
so it depends what user is looking for.
stronger sound and bass and leads, yes, predator.
better pads with much better pad sound presets?
Albino
and not really a good idea to put people "against" the idea of buying albino as that affects Peter.
It is obvious something bad happened, and i am sad to read it as i like you both.
Oh well.
BLUE is also great for pads, but sounds very different again.
A Roland JX-10p (analog) sounds very different then a Jupiter-8 (also analog).
So there are always differences.
Hardware or software....

With the talk of Linplug supporting Albino for the next two years, what happens at the end of that - does Albino just stop working? I presume it would continue to work as long as your hardware supported it, am I right?

hardware is one thing. OS is another...audington wrote:With the talk of Linplug supporting Albino for the next two years, what happens at the end of that - does Albino just stop working? I presume it would continue to work as long as your hardware supported it, am I right?
