The gui bug should be fixed when I release the next beta version.
Those will eventually affect the types of variations in the styles. But most of the styles are ignoring them for now.- The buttons along the right from stylize (Pat/Vel/Snd) - I assume allow variations on the pattern velocity and sound. However I cannot work out the connection - the patterns vary but the velocity and sounds seemingly do not. A little confused Confused
Swing adjust the timing of 8th notes. Shuffle adjusts the timing of 16th notes.- Also I hear the difference between swing and shuffle - but whats going-on under the hood?
Here's a brief overview of the sequencer. I will write some real documentation later.
Top Section
Chain patterns together.
Use the markers to create sections that you can jump between with midi when playing.
Middle Section
Filter the types of pattern presets that can be selected in the bottom section. For example, if you can decide whether triplet patterns are available.
Bottom Section
Hand Programming:
You can always hand program a pattern. Just turn off all of the dice buttons and the style amount(top right knob).
Presets:
Style - Think of these as selecting a drummer with specific habits to play your patterns. One drummer may like to do add ghosted snare hits, another may prefer to do fancy stuff on the hihats, another adds kicks, etc.
Right knob=Choose type of variations to add.
Left Knob=Amount of variations to add. Lowest value will not vary your patterns at all.
The style notes added to patterns are grey.
Fills - Add a preset fill to the pattern. Use the on/off button to enable it. These notes are shown in cyan. Left knob=select group. Right knob=select pattern. If you stylize fills, it will limit the fills to a few that fit with that particular drummer style.
HH/Ride Patterns - Left knob=select group, right knob=select pattern,
Snare Patterns - Same as HH/Ride
Kick Pattterns - Same as HH/Ride
Dice Buttons - If the dice are highlighted. The sequencer will play random patterns from the current group.
The patterns in each group are similar.
If you want to hand program your own patterns, turn this off. Otherwise your patterns will get replaced.
I think separating the patterns out like this will make it easier to experiment. For example, you can easily try different high hat patterns over a kick/snare groove that you like to see how it affects the feel of the track. That's harder to do in a regular library where all the parts are programmed together, and the combination you're looking for may not exist.
In the next release there will be a way to edit the patterns in the groups as well, so you'll eventually have complete control of the presets and their variations. (With the exception of the styles)
