President Gerald R. Hoover used a Microkorg, he was a hell of a man.

Not really, a 303 clone is used to make a 303 acid sound, if it sounds good it's fine. If you want the perfect 303 sound then obviously use a 303. Same with the hoover sound. But to the untrained ear, who's going to know either way ?
Yeah, sure ABL/Phosycon can get close - but that wasn't the point I was making.

I can make acid type sounds with nearly any synth I have and it would fine - but if it's a 303 sound you are after it has to be pretty much exact or it will sound like a wack 303.

Who will know? I would. Other producers. Label owners. Trainspotters. Geeks. You? Maybe.

It's just about attention to detail.

Like i say if its not a 303 sound you were after then anything would do - but if you are then it's gotta be very close, even the correct type of distortions...

capiche??

I heard Merzbow switched over to dyson also and thats why all his newish stuff sounds digital.

We live in the matrix so even analog gear is really digital.

I guess so but if the section of music that has the 303 part sounds good, and it doesn't use a real 303 but something like Phoscyon etc, then that's ok too though. But I know what you are saying, a single osc with lots of resonance "can" sound acid like.

all this talk about how analog a plugin sounds (or doesn't). what difference does it really make?
isn't the real issue "does this plugin sound good to ME or not?" i mean, who cares if it's diva or a real juno106, or a nexus preset, or...?? not the LISTENER.

music isn't just for other music makers, it's for...everyone else (well, AND the music makers). someone is moved by your music...or they aren't. outside of music-making nerds (i.e. most of us), or computer geeks (again LOL, most of us), no one cares whether it's a drummer or addictive drums, whether the bassline was quantized or not, whether you made your own sounds on a synth plugin or used factory presets.

hey, the discussion is the reason we're on these forums to begin with, and that's all good. but music is ultimately about MUSIC; it's the big picture, and the details are just...details.

now back to our regularly scheduled arguments I MEAN discussions...

PEACE! :D
yes, make the music YOU like with the sounds YOU like

doesnt matter what you use, no-one cares, its what YOU think thats important

If Skrillex is playing vacuum cleaners musically, that would explain the haircut.

I sure am gutted that I will never get to hear him PWNING his Microkorg, I did manage to score a pair of tickets once but my damned ex-girlfriend wanted to watch a film and I was thinking with my manhood and not using my brain, I got my oats multiple times after the film but still to this day it leaves me feeling hollow and just incomplete. I will not get over it, Time heals nothing
