DMGAudio PitchFunk, out now...

Actually, the timing sync in this plug-in is seriously out of whack on my system. I've tried various presets using both synced and unsynced delays and the resulting taps are way off where they should be (over 20ms in some cases). I've checked against valhalla freq echo on the same channel and it's rock solid. Changing the pitch value messes with sync, too, as does the position of the fx mix knob. Oh, and I set every mod source to 0% manually to ensure that there was nothing causing unseen modulations.
Again, ableton live 8.2.8, os x 10.7.4.

My initial impression(s) had me thinking of Obelisk (minus the pitch shifting).kingtubby wrote:my initial impression of pitchfunk is that it's in similar territory to spectrumworx in it's sound-mangling capabilities, but with a more accessible and comfortable ui - first impressions though...
I'm not sure whether I'll pull the switch on it or not. Price seems reasonable that's for sure.

I'm having some fun with the demo, trying to make step lfo audio triggered arpeggiators, although not sure what exact pitches it's hitting.

If you set the y-axis to 12 steps and then the modulation amount to 50% you get a semitone scale in the LFO page. Engage the little keyboard symbol next to the pitch knob so that only semitones are allowed and no pitches in between.RunBeerRun wrote:I'm having some fun with the demo, trying to make step lfo audio triggered arpeggiators, although not sure what exact pitches it's hitting.

Ok, thanks. It's quite intimidating for fine tuning, for me, so far.

2 issues for me using the AU in Live 8.2.6/OSX 10.6.8:
1. I get some beautiful subtle thing happening on piano through PF, but when I hit record it suddenly becomes rather wild. Not bad, but not subtle. Is it the midi to pitch thing that kicks in at that point? Can we get a toggle off for that?
2. On re-opening a session the plug is usually (perhaps always) off. The plug is not literally off but it has no effect. In fact, while the plug is on it passes no audio whatsoever. To hear audio I have to disable PF. To get a working version again I have to delete and re-instantiate.
Other than those rather maddening habits it's quite delightful.

...and another bug: I stuck PF on the master track for some nifty end-of-song effect. Automated wet/dry and FX mix at the end for it to kick in; when I rendered it down, however, the effect was all over the entire track! This happened with Reaper.
It made my wife hit me, so please fix it!

Maybe all those bugs are part of the PF-concept, so they are in fact features instead of bugs

Well, the results of these bugs ARE funny, so you may be right there.Sampleconstruct wrote:Maybe all those bugs are part of the PF-concept, so they are in fact features instead of bugs
I notice Dave has been rather quiet; hard at work, I hope.

Yeah, I emailed support twice and have not received an answer yet, since the release none of the DMGAudio guys has posted here which is rather strange. A bit of buyers remorse on my side as I don't want to participate in public Beta programs any moreariston wrote:Well, the results of these bugs ARE funny, so you may be right there.Sampleconstruct wrote:Maybe all those bugs are part of the PF-concept, so they are in fact features instead of bugs

Hi all,
I am here, reading along. Ariston, I'm sorry your wife hit you; I'll make fixing that bug a priority!
I'm pretty tired after the launch, but am spending the weekend restfully so I can get everything sorted early next week.
Do feel free to mail in any bug reports (I actually don't have many emails about bugs, but of course there are a few issues listed here, which all look eminently fixable). The first month discount is there since a launch (especially with something as weird as this) always seems to have some stuff that slips through the cracks. But none of these issues look particularly scary, and I'll have this all polished up in the week
Sorry for the quietness, but I'm here, and all is well
Dave.

Hey, not too worry, she didn't hit me THAT hard. She's usually a good sport, because she's the first to listen to my stuff and usually kind to it. This track, however, sounded like group sex among rabid cats.DaveGamble wrote: I am here, reading along. Ariston, I'm sorry your wife hit you; I'll make fixing that bug a priority!
I'm sure you've got your hands full, and you've earned some rest. The constant information stream of modern communication really speeds things up and creates stress for all concerned; take your time, glad to hear that these bugs aren't huge.

Premature celebration? They skipped town with the initial inrush of cash? Hunkered down squashing bugs? I'm guessing one or two of those, but who knows which one(s).
For my round two, or maybe three, I started trying the presets. I'd usually do some of that first, but played around with everything from scratch instead. After a few of the presets, I got the no audio bug, repeatedly.
So, I went back to scratch and tried more subtle things. I does nice traditional harmonizer doubling, although I still can't run L/R on many of the shift algorithms. That made it hard because I of course wanted to have a little shift up and down at the same time.
I know it sounds boring, but I'd truly like a lite version with just the pitch shifter. It wouldn't even need modulation or feedback. Anyway, just thinking out loud. Maybe once it's fixed, tweaked and optimized, CPU won't be an issue. I'm going to try some shifting and microshifting on program material next.
The over the top effects remind of when I got my H3000 some 25 or so years ago and played relentlessly with it's stutter effect. Instant Max Headroom. A friend spent hours playing Louis Prima vinyl through that effect at the expense of my girlfriend's and cat's nerves. Good times, although it probably hasn't been switched to that in 24 years. Maybe today's the day?
